How does this years team compare others? Whats the minimum you expect? What would be a lofty goal for this team?

Pitching looks great so far. Almost 5 to 1 strikeouts to walks. Our school ALL-TIME record is something just over 3 I believe. We've won a lot of games simply because both our starters, savers, and closers were better. I think we had our 6th shutout last night, which is about a quarter of our games.
Our offense isn't as good as some years, though above average I imagine.
If Beer can get out of slump, and the rest of the team continue to improve, and our amazing pitching holds up under some really good ACC teams, we might well have an Omaha team that gets close to what we all want this year.

This is right on target. It's wild to look at our lineup and averages and realize we stand to get better at the plate. But the fact of the matter, is we still have room to improve in scoring.
If we can do that, and find our way through the tough teams to come, this year could be big.

little below average, but above average at the most opportune times (men in scoring position w/ 2 outs etc.). Pitching has been great! If it holds up, we keep getting better fielding, and the bats start warming up it could be a fun ride! The next few series will tell a lot.
IMO Coaching/attitude has been perhaps the biggest plus. A few years ago if we were ahead by a couple of runs there was a good chance we'd let the game slip out of our hands...you could almost see the sphincter tightening. Now it's the opposite, even when down a couple of runs the team never quits and expects to win. Really like where baseball is headed with MLee.

I would go so far as to say Beer is in a slump...

It's more a matter of opposing pitchers not really giving him much to hit which is why he is among the league leaders in walks.

Agree on the pitching, but actually our offense is below average. We're in the bottom half of the league in batting avg, slugging %, runs scored, RBI's, hits, doubles, triples, total bases. We're in the top half in OBP thanks to all of Beer's walks.
Still, I love where we are at this point in the season. Some very good arms and hopefully the hitting will come around.

Up the middle than teams in the past few years and that is important If the arms hold up the Tigers will be in most games. Run production will have to improve beginning with the upcoming conference road games. Errors and walks are killers and we have improved there a lot! Hitters two and four need to be consistently good and give Beer a chance to shine. He seldom gets a good pitch to hit. Tigers should be a top ten team all year. Lville and FSU scare me

I chuckle every time I hear that Beer is in a slump. Then I watch him hit another ball into orbit. I just wish I could play baseball and be in that slump. Methinks he spoiled us too much last year before everyone stopped pitching to him, started walking him, and throwing inside so often and hitting him. Anyone that plays us knows how good this guy is. They pitch around him every time they can. He seldow sees a good pitch. Slump? LOL

I agree wholeheartedly. Seth Beer isn't slumping... his numbers last year were just out of this orbit. He spoiled us and now we expect more of the same and it's just unreasonable to expect with the way opposing teams approach Beer. He is having some really quality ABs considering and has done well defensively as well. Seth isn't slumping... his numbers are lower than last year, but he's fine and still one of the most dangerous hitters in college baseball.
As Chris Williams' and other guys' bats continue to improve, it will insulate him a little but I still wouldn't expect much of an increase. All we need is for Seth Beer to continue to be Seth Beer and we will be fine. He is a really special player and guy.
This team is a ton of fun to watch and, while he part of the reason, when you come to a game and watch some of the other guys, you realize he is not THE ONLY reason.

base percentage is a huge stat. Our hitters behind him have been doing a good job, so I think we are about where we should be. I agree on tightening up the defense and maybe being a little more aggressive at the plate at times, but no real complaints here. We shouldn't be too disturbed about losing a few games over the next few series. GT has not been playing well at home, so I expect a pretty successful series there.

Seth is 7 for his 31 with 8 BBs and 7 RBI...that's at about a .225 clip...by his standards that's a slump. He will most definitely turn it around and get into a groove but to say he's been consistent all season is inaccurate. He was moved to the 2 hole for a reason last night to get an opportunity to get things going.

Yep he has not looked comfortable at the plate much this season. He is trying to do too much at times , I bet he goes on a tear before this season is over. I say he finishes with around 15 HRs and 60 RBIs. I believe he will get that AVG up to around 300.

The main difference in this season than last is as simple as flip flopping pitching and hitting. Last season we had power pouring out of our a$$ and hit for many XBHs and that was able to cover our short comings on the mound.
This year our pitching has been phenomenal but the offense has slacked a little bit. I expect we will start firing on all cylinders by mid season...team has too much potential offensively.
