Baseball committee

May 30, 2022, 12:44 PM

The committee clearly didn’t think as highly of the ACC quality of baseball this year as many thought they would. Surprised ND not a host.

Not that I care because I hate N.C.State literally but the Wolfpack not going is a surprise considering they made the ACC Tournament Championship game and finished 36-21 and poor Wofford going 42-16-1 and not going

Yes, both of those shocked me as well as Rutgers getting left out. Definitely think NC State did more to get in than ole miss... But that northeastern sweep hurt them bad. Out of conference wins/losses matter.

Really surprised Notre Dame got knocked out of a host spot ny Florida. Wofford needed a better showing in conference tourny. I am surprised the ACC got as disrespected as they did as far as NC State and Notre Dame goes. And all this shows Clemson was never in the conversation for a spot in the tournament the last 2 weeks

Clemson was only ever in the running if they were going to take 10 ACC teams. I tried to tell folks this wasn’t happening. The idea that the second best conference was going to set a record number of bids was pure magical thinking.

In no way did I think Clemson would get in. I did think the strength of the ACC would get 10 teams in and Notre Dame to host.

SEC man. Got to look out for them no matter what sport. This is really getting old. How many SEC schools hosts ? Probably the same as last year.

Whether you like RPI or not it is at least objective. The SEC was 1st and the ACC was second. Both leagues got 4 hosts and 9 teams - which ties the record number of teams to from a conference to make the tourney. I don’t see how this could be seen as a case of SEC bias. Notre Dame is probably the strongest 2 seed. But you couldn’t make ND a host without a 5th SEC host. That would have been equally ridiculous. They’ve never given two conferences 9 bids in the same season. The ACC was shown plenty of respect. The idea that we would get 10 teams and 5 hosts was always ridiculous.

I guess my question to you is do you firmly believe the SEC is that much better than the ACC? State was 36-21 and went a game under .500 in league play along with a solid outing in the tournament and a title game appearance. The Northeastern sweep on paper looks weak however State swept ECU... WHO IS A NATIONAL HOST... combined score in the two games was 15-5. To further put it in perspective, Ole #### went 32-22 and was only 6 spots ahead in RPI. Of course it's biased but I don't see the justification from the NCAA. And so what if we put 10 teams in to their 9, why does that really matter.

Excuse my ignorance. Ole Miss was worse in RPI at 39. Grand Canyon also worse RPI at 50 and received and at-large.

I don’t need they’re “that much better” and I don’t. But the metric the NCAA uses says they are slightly better. The bigger point was they had never sent 10 teams from any conference, ever. They weren’t going to do it for two in one season and the ACC had done nothing to distinguish into receiving an all-time record number of bids. It still became only the second conference to ever get 9 bids.

You have great stats but sec has gotten 10 teams in 3 times and acc once. One year both got 10 in. 11 would be a record. Your point is still correct Clemson wasn’t getting in unless we sent 11. That is obvious now with the nc st snub and with Pitt being bubble too.

Sec had 10 in 2014, 2018 and 2019. Acc had 10 in 2016.

You’re right. I’ve been working off bad info. Did you manually count or find a site that makes it easy to see bid by conference? Someone asked much earlier this season what the most was and 9 for the SEC twice was what I found which obviously wasn’t accurate. I still don’t think there is any big slight here. 18 team between them is plenty. Would we have even been the 10th team in? NC State was in the First Four out per Kendall Rogers.

Don't we want to cap the number of baseball teams from a conference like we want to cap the number if we go to 8 or 12 teams in the football playoffs? I think we like to argue numbers based on how good our conference is in a particular sport.
