Ball Sac's recruiting in SC

Jun 7, 2012, 8:02 AM

Only 3 of his 15 verbal commitments are from the state of SC.

Is the state's crop of players not very good this year?

or ..

is his tactic of cutting the underachievers finally catching up with him (SC HS coaches steering their players away from Coot U)?

In general, you can't live off in-state players in S.C. First, there are the numbers of other states, and there aren't as many top-notch players.

SC talent is not very good this year, but neither is the talent in their recruiting class so far. 1 ESPN 150 member, 2 ESPN 300 members and 6 out of 15 are 4* guys.

I know we have small numbers but 4 of the 6 are 4* guys with 2 in the top 150.

In the ESPN ratings, 2 of our recruits are JC transfers, who

have yet to get a rating. When they came out of high school, both were 4 stars.

Regardless, ESPN does not have a monopoly on recruiting analysis. 3 of the recruiting services have team rankings out. They are as follows:

247: Carolina 9
clemson 33

Rivals: Carolina 13
clemson 34

Scout: Carolina 16
clemson 28

Looks to me like Carolina's in-coming talent in their 2013 class is very good thus far.

Are those #'s predictions for this year's score?******

There are 1,000,000 more people (read high school players) in the Atlanta Metro Area alone than the entire state of South Carolina.

This doesn't include Florida, North Carolina or Virginia.

What's the talent level looking like for 2014 in the state?*

2014 is projected to be an above average year for in state talent but most analysts I have read.

I don't care what star rating a kid has. I'll Make my judgement when they play.

I agree wtih this statement... star rankings are 50/50 at best.. no better than a coin flip... show me on the field what kind of player you are.

Not much in SC this year. We missed out on Terry and guys like Williams and Hill are still uncommitted. The three commits we do have were pretty high on our board.

Combined with our focus in Georgia and are 20-22 person class, that explains why we have so few from SC.
