Back to mental midget, DeSantis:

Feb 23, 2022, 8:49 AM

Are there any sane Republicans who stand a chance in 24? DeSantis' is Trump light and will pick up that base if Trump doesn't run.

Paul Ryan - Would be my top choice, but probably too sane to get back into politics.

Larry Hogan - Would be my 2nd choice. Two term Governor of a blue state.

Ben Sasse - Maybe could be convinced to run as an independent.

Ted Cruz - Brilliant compared to DeSantis and I maybe could support him if Biden or Harris is his opponent. Could definitely support him over MAGA.

Nikki Haley - Same as above.

Kristi Noem - Just another MAGA imbecile.

Mitt Romney - 3rd choice but too old at 77.

Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath thought of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.

Re: Back to mental midget, DeSantis:

Feb 23, 2022, 9:44 AM

Kinzinger and Cheney have chances...as independents.

I truly do think an independent who's willing to play chicken with the Dems has a real chance in '24. Basically, they have to get themselves into the conversation, get themselves on the debate stage like Perot did, and then basically say: "Look, it's going to be one of us or it's going to be Trump...and if you truly love America and Democracy, you'll let the American people decide, and if one of us is leading the other in the polls going into the final stretch the loser will drop out and endorse the other so it's not Trump because otherwise you just appointed him president."

If Kinzinger or Cheney can get into that position, they'll win. Conclusively.

Contrariwise I could see Rupert Murdoch at Fox taking a real liking to Liz Cheney if she successfully gets Trump convicted or his candidacy revoked as a result of her January 6th findings. Murdoch had himself a great little alliance with Margaret Thatcher back in the day, played kingmaker for her, and a lot of people think Liz Cheney is our version of Thatcher. With her cross-party appeal Cheney would absolutely roll into office if she gets Murdoch's backing because the MSM has already put its stamp of approval all over Cheney...provided she get's Fox's backing, which won't happen until something happens to Trump. She'd stomp Biden as comprehensively as Reagan crushed Carter and probably lead a massive GOP takeover of Congress on top of that.

The only one I would vote against there is Cruz. He's such a cretin and disgusting human I could never support him. I may dislike him worse than Trump.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Liz Cheney? No chance in Hades.

Feb 23, 2022, 10:02 AM

I did get a chuckle out of that one.

Who would vote for her? She has zero cross party appeal. Neither Republicans nor Democrats would vote for her. She has no chance whatsoever of becoming president.

Ted Cruz is despised by just about everybody.

The Republican nomination belongs to Trump. He controls who the nominee will be in the GOP.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Feb 23, 2022, 10:31 AM

I'm telling you: never, ever underestimate Rupert Murdoch's ability to kingmake. Or queenmake.

Fox turns its primetime Infotainer lineup to rehabbing Cheney's image, they'll have MAGA World loving her in a week.

Fox is the real power in the GOP. You have to look no further than Tucker Carlson making Ted Cruz absolutely crawl for all to see to realize that.

It all comes down, ultimately, to what Rupert decides to do. It's been like that for the GOP since at least 2010 when they basically ran John Boehner out of Washington on a rail.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Murdoch is no miracle worker. Trump endorsed her opponent.

Feb 23, 2022, 10:43 AM

He has the GOP base convinced January 6th was a "legitimate political discussion" and the real villains there were FBI instigators running false-flag operations...and you doubt Murdoch's ability to make chicken salad out of nothing but chicken feathers?

Dude. He's state TV now. And he has his base literally programmed into a cult that listens to him and nothing but him now. This ain't the Fox News of the 1990's anymore.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly. January 6th was "legitimate political discussion"

Feb 23, 2022, 10:56 AM

and Liz Cheney is the lead Republican on the Jan 6th Committee seeking the truth about what happened and pointing the finger directly at Donald Trump. The current GOP has no interest in policy. It is all about grievance. Cheney is the antithesis of the current GOP.

As we saw when Trump said he got the booster, there is a negative riptide in the GOP that even Rupert Murdoch knows better than to try to swim against.

Re: Liberals like to think liberal GOP candidates would win

Feb 23, 2022, 11:25 AM [ in reply to Liberals like to think liberal GOP candidates would win ]

Disagree. Wholly.

Right-wingers are tribal creatures who focus on Us versus Them. Left-wingers are idealists who focus on wealth and the redistribution of it. Both can go wrong - badly - but when right-wingers go malignant, they turn on anybody from opposing tribes, usually along racial or ethnic lines. When left-wingers go malignant, they start purging anybody with the "wrong" political ideology.

This is what you refuse to understand. They are not the same. Stalin confused Hitler with a "Socialist" because Hitler was part of the "National Socialist Party" in Europe and talked a bit of the talk (in public), and Stalin was foolish enough to imagine they were on the same team. They were not...as Stalin discovered the hard way when the Blitz rolled into the Soviet Union in 1939. The world was a class struggle to Stalin, the rich versus the poor, capitalists versus communists. Hitler was a fake Socialist whose reign was literally defined by the Big Lie - and he was not even remotely interested in turning the world into a classless worker's paradise...he wanted to exterminate all races he perceived as inferior and take their land for the Master Race, allow "Ubermen" (supermen) like himself to rule it with an iron fist, and the fake socialism he presented to the world was just a mask for the masses - who he literally regarded as "rabble", a term coined by Nietszche, who was his inspiration just as Karl Marx was for Stalin.

In almost every way, Nazism was a direct reaction to Communism.

Not. The. Same.

You have to be radical it seems now to get out of the primary, and the sane, somewhat moderate people pick each other apart. If she could clear that, she would now be appealing to the independent/moderate base in the main voting populous, and those are the people who decide elections.
