What happens in the South Carolina game if Stoudt

Oct 27, 2014, 10:33 AM

I think the D can step up and cause real problems for the Gamecocks but not sure if the Stoudt offense can score enough by itself.

I know Watson should return, but I have this feeling the choppy playing we always encounter from the Yellow Jackets he is at risk of another injury (as well as our linemen).

I still like our chances.

South Carolina defense is awful.

Oct 27, 2014, 11:12 AM [ in reply to Auburn is 46th in total D.... ]

Clemson is 2nd in defense efficiency. Auburn is #17. Coots 95th. But Clemson ranks #59 in Offensive efficiency Auburn was #3 and Coots are #17. Based on ESPN we have only played 2 teams in top 30 in total overall efficiency. And Coots have played 3. So neither have had stiff competitions. Still got a few weeks till game. A lot of injuries on both side could happen by then.

Our defense is great, but has not faced a good offense

Oct 27, 2014, 10:36 AM

outside of UGA and UNC. FSU, obviously, played their backup and still passed for over 300 yds.

We will limit SCar, but it will be a struggle to hold them under 20. I am not sure Stoudt can put up 24 points. I think we need 24 points to win that game.

They've already lost one, to Texas A&M, this season.

SC has had a big coaching advantage the last few years.

Oct 27, 2014, 10:52 AM

From what I can tell. At this point, though, I don't think there is enough talent on the defensive side of the ball for SC to walk out of Clemson with a victory.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If Watson is healthy, I agree we should win by 10+. However,

Oct 27, 2014, 10:54 AM

if he's only 75% or if Stoudt has to play, it will be coin flip.

Somehow, we have to score 24 points to have a chance to win.

and it seems the more he works with the first team offense, the worse it gets.

The team will cruise past Wake and Georgia State but I do not have any confidence that Cole can direct the Clemson offense to wins against Georgia Tech or South Carolina.

No way with Stoudt at QB that we should win by 2 TDs.

With our offense, it doesn't matter how good the defense is.

Oct 27, 2014, 10:54 AM

We will struggle to put together enough mistake free football to get down the field and score a touchdown. Not sure our defense can hold either the SC or the Tech offenses down for an entire game like they have the past few offenses.

Hope DW is ready for the Tech game. We could hold him and see if we need him, but I think we will need him to win.

Oct 27, 2014, 11:03 AM

We will not beat the ##### with Stoudt playing. We need Watson for the W. Watson has the "it" factor, Stoudt unfortunately does not. He's got great heart, but the difference in skill levels is night and day. I think we will need Watson for a GTech win. We will sq-eek by Wake on the road with Stoudt and hopefully Watson can get back into game form by the time we go to Atlanta. If not we leave there with a loss..

Yes fans should thank Stoudt for helping us "limp" through

Oct 27, 2014, 11:10 AM

And I would like to see him play almost pure ball control against Wake and whenever he comes back in - mostly running with only occasional pass!

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Perhaps we'll have the opportunity to knock the rust off Dye

Oct 27, 2014, 11:21 AM

The Deac D is decent, but their offense is woeful. WE should get ample opportunities for everyone to see the field who's physically able.

badge-donor-20yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-revdodd.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If and when

Oct 27, 2014, 11:16 AM [ in reply to Stoudt will see the field... ]

Watson returns to the lineup, he will see the same pressures that Stoudt is seeing now. Although he is more mobile than CS and has a quicker release, no game will be a cakewalk until the upfront guys get it together. Watson saw a lot of pressure in the game he was hurt in and did very little in that game in the short time that he played. Opponents see that Clemson is weak in the offensive line and will continue to apply pressure and try to stop the run. Since the Louisville game the offense has been very poor. I don't know if adjustments can be made until the big guys on the Oline play big time football.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Watson only threw 6 passes against Louisville and one of

Oct 27, 2014, 11:26 AM

them was a perfectly thrown deep ball touchdown to Germone Hopper that was dropped. Our offensive line has only given up 2 sacks in the last two games in spite of Cole holding the ball to long on some plays.

DW throws a much better deep ball and is more accurate in general. The line isn't perfect, but they are good enough, even with our lack of talent at running back, to move the ball and score TDs with DW in the game. We are a totally different offense with DW in the game.

Re: Watson only threw 6 passes against Louisville and one of

Oct 27, 2014, 11:39 AM

I do not disagree with anything that you said. The point that I was trying to make is ... that teams have figured us out in recent weeks. They easily see that we have an unstable OL because of injuries and play us differently than teams did early in the season. Watson will see more pressure than he did previously. The pass to Hopper was a good one, the interception that he threw in the same game, wasn't! Lots of things to clean up before we become real good again. Did you see the snap over Stoudts head in the last game? Watson would have missed that one too!

Re: What happens in the South Carolina game if Stoudt

Oct 27, 2014, 11:18 AM

It isn't Cole I am worried about against South Carolina more so the o-line. Hopefully Georgia State gives the backups some QT. If you want to know part of our offensive backfield struggles it is the low number of Offensive Linemen we have and I mean in experience backups. I know Dabo keeps saying "help is on the way" and it is but it is freightening to think about finishing out this season with the thoughts of what could happen. Just have to wait at see at that juncture.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Stoudt = ball control with only occasional pass

Oct 27, 2014, 11:26 AM

I wish Stoudt would run ball control primarily with only occasional pass against Wake and whenever he is in there. He did have good 2nd half thankfully and that last ten min. drive was ball control beauty!

Re: What happens in the South Carolina game if Stoudt

Oct 27, 2014, 12:22 PM

I can say this I think without folks getting all pisssed off. We have scored 3 offensive TDs in our last 12 quarters on offense. I say we will need at least 4 touch downs against the coots, and I don't think that our D will score 4 TDs. And I don't think Cole will score any against the coots b/c, Spurrier will pressure Cole every down after he watches the Cuse game. The very best thing we have going for us right now, is that there isn't much film to study on Watson, and hopefully with the Nerf FB, CM is working on some new plays for Deshaun during his down time. Answer to your question, if we have to play Cole, it will be ugly for the Sixth year in a row!!!
