Athletic Director Hot Seat

Mar 26, 2021, 9:30 PM

The recent debacles of Texas Athletics begs to question why there isn't a AD Hot Seat ranking?

Recent example: Chris Del Conte has created a revolving door of coaches at Texas since being hired in 2017. He makes big bucks, has an unlimited budget, facilities to match, etc, but he can't seem to land the right coaches (and don't blame the board or boosters, every major program has spoiled, egotistical boosters that control the board of Trustees). At what point do you have to create a "hot seat" website ranking bad AD's and why aren't they held more accountable?

Ray Tanner is also a prime example, he is a fish out of water in the corporate world of major college sports and has his own debacles at USC. At least Del Conte has a resume of athletic director roles before stepping in at Texas.

I agree with what you say about the Texas dude, but I think you are a little harsh on Tanner. I think the Chickens should give him more time, a LOT more time.

I remember when Dan Radakovich came onboard and a Georgia Tech buddy of mine said "Good riddance, you can have him! He's done nothing for GT!"

LOL!

I can remember one of my GT friends saying that we were getting a very good one. He said we had the program funds and support to allow Dan to flourish and that he could make things happen, or something to that effect. Turns out to have been a very good hire for us, and if you've never met and spent time with him, he is a prince of a guy and very smart and methodical. JMHO, but so far he seems to be checking the right boxes for me. And, yes, I want the basketball program to improve. Hopefully Dan will get that done, too.

Tanner is crazy cousin Eddie from Vacation Movies.

He made Paul Johnson the 2nd highest paid coach in the ACC

with the longest contract before his first year was done. That probably infuriates a bunch of Georgia Tech fans the long road back from that debacle.

Are we having a similar basketball experience?
