Assuming no teams defect from ACC, SEC, PAC or BIG

Jul 30, 2021, 3:51 PM

I think there will be four 20 team super conferences in the next 5 years. Here are my thoughts on a possible alignment

additions
SEC
Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor, UCF, Memphis

ACC
Norte Dame, West Virginia, Connecticut, Cincinnati, App. state, South Florida

Big Ten
Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Ohio, Navy, Army

Pac 12
TCU, Texas Tech, Boise State, Hawaii, San Diego State, Utah State, BYU, Nevada

Thoughts?

Thoughts;
1) Still wonder why so many people seem to think Notre Dame is going to join a conference, any conference.
2) Just because we are playing them this year, UCONN, IMO, brings nothing to the ACC.
3) UCF, in my opinion would be a better fit in the ACC then either UCONN or Cincinnati.
4) Army /Navy will probably remain independent. No real reason for them to join a conference.
5)Does anybody really care about the PAC 12?

App. State? No way. From those teams, ND, WVU, Cincinnati,

and South Florida could all join.

Why should the rainmakers in these conferences share revenue with the other programs?

Most of the teams you mention, other than Texas, OU and ND, are simply dead wood and add no value to the networks or the conferences. Why would teams like Alabama, OSU et al agree to let teams like UCONN into their conference and share the money with them?

The reality is the entertainment companies writing the checks are going to force consolidation on college football. Texas and OU is the beginning of this since ESPN only wanted to pay for those two schools, not the others. There's only a certain amount of teams the companies are willing to write huge checks to. College football will resemble a feeder league for the NFL with semi pro players with 32-48 core teams playing against each other.

I hate it, but things are definitely heading in that direction. Some schools (Wake, Duke even UNC and UVA) may opt out and reject this model and maintain a more traditional approach to college athletics, playing against like minded schools. Make no mistake, however, schools opting out will face a massive pay cut to their AD.

Aside from UConn, those are all road trips I would like to

make. I could go with that setup. Now go make it happen!

Most of the teams you listed add no value.***

ACC ends up with the worst programs?

Jul 30, 2021, 5:41 PM

I'd take Ok State Baylor and Texas Tech first.

There will be defections from the ACC.

We're chatting about a fistfight while a nuclear bomb is about to drop. Anything where the big schools have anything to do with the NCAA is an incorrect prediction.

Dabo said it himself... There will be a 64 team league of the schools committed to performing at the highest level. Everyone else remaining in any "conference" as we know it, will be the "have nots."
