As the proud son of a mixed marriage allow me to weigh in

Oct 6, 2013, 11:22 AM

Dad and Mom were introduced during WWII while he was training at a B-24 bomber factory in Michigan called Willow Run. He was only there for a few weeks. Dad was from Anderson, SC. Dad was next stationed in Boise, Idaho. Mom followed him there and they were married shortly thereafter. After the war, they returned to Anderson where I was born. When Mom passed away in 2010, they had been married for 67 years. So although I was born and raised in the South, I am half Yankee. Getting this out in the open is a major step forward in my life.

Marrying a Yankee. This was despite descending from a family that settled in SC in the 1670s. My brother, sister, and I were the first generation to move away from Florence county. But it gets worse. Although the Yankee I married did have some redeeming qualities because he is a Clemson alum, he then went on to get his masters from SC. Being married to a Yankee and SC grad was just too much. I should have known we were destined for divorce.

I knew that, but had forgotten. It explains a lot of questionable behavior in the 70's.
