Secret weapon: Greg huegel

Jul 3, 2018, 8:09 PM

Surprised no one is talking about the fact that we get our starting kicker back this year from injury. Greg huegel is going to give us a nice, steady go to that we did not have. Just something to think about and yet another reason why I believe the tigers should have a sensational season.

Agreed. Huegel is money.

Not flashy. Not the greatest stats. But that guy made many clutch kicks for us. Glad he is back.

Huegel kicking field goals, and true freshman Potter kicking touch backs in the end zone on kick offs. We should have a special kicking team this season. A question I have though, will Spiers be our starting punter this season or, can Potter challenge Spiers for the punting duties?

And don't forget Alex Spence...

...he came on strong later in the year. I kinda wonder if Potter will redshirt? It's another good problem to have.

Is a nice problem to have but if Potter is as good as advertised, he wins the punting job. Let’s remember he gets 4 games to play this year and still rs. But being that good, don’t think he’ll stay 4 yrs anyway.

I know we lost Pinion early, but it's pretty uncommon for punters to leave early.

I doubt it. And Potter is not known for his punting. I think we signed a punter specifically. Didn’t we?

Good question. I think it's wide open. But I would love to have a punter next year that can flip the field. Really miss Bradley Pinion.

People don't talk much about @ Syracuse last year in regards to Huegel. Even with KB hurt, had Huegel been healthy, we make enough FGs to win that game. He will be very crucial this year for sure.

If we could get someone, anyone, getting 3 from 40+ and pinning people at 20- on kickoffs, we'd be unstoppable.

FSU got a lot of of mileage off that a few years back. Saban and Frank Beamer have made a game (albeit a pretty boring one, but one with buckets o'trophies) of it.

It's important in football.

Not being a smart @ss but, the ball is brought out to the 25 on touch back kick offs. But the new rules change says that if a fair catch is called for behind the 25, the ball will be set on the 25 yd line. It's their attempt to stop kick off returns in college FB....

Guh. I get it from a safety standpoint, but. . . .

Cool thing is some of our opponents are coached by complete DA's and will try to run it out from the 5 or even the endzone for a glory run without having the skillset for such a thing. I'm looking your way, Mr. Muschamp ;)

Looks like we have 3 good kickers now.
