Cannot see Coach Morris not strongly considering HC openings

Oct 30, 2012, 10:46 PM

likely coming up at Arkansas, Kentucky, Auburn and Tennessee along with many more openings in the Midwest.

It's possible Coach will stay at Clemson through 2013 for Tajh, Sammy and Nuk send-off party, and he could optimize his HC payout by waiting a year as Tigers will continue to improve in 2013 if he sticks around. Coach Morris came to Clemson with little fanfare. He has resurrected the Clemson O and deserves the recognition he's received.

No doubt he loves Clemson and his players, but his #1 priority has to be his family, his career and his salary. After the SC game, he will receive some serious attention.

Dabo did an outstanding job selecting Coach Morris. He may need to start drawing up a contingency OC list for next year. Justin Fuentes, runner-up to Morris, has taken HC job at Memphis. Who should be on the OC contingency list?

Drama, Drama, Drama
Drama seekers never stop searching for more drama in their lives....

Not burying one's head for the inevitable = seeking drama?

Oct 30, 2012, 11:12 PM

That's a pretty jacked up way to look at it. Chad Morris could be gone this year. To ignore that as a real possibility is a choice you are free to make, but it's ridiculous to fault anyone for considering what Clemson needs to do just in case.

Notwithstanding your condescending reply ...

Oct 30, 2012, 11:17 PM [ in reply to Re: Cannot see Coach Morris not strongly considering HC openings ]

Coach Morris' career plans and his replacement will have a larger and more immediate impact on Clemson Football's future than Mr. Radakovich or this week's 17-point win at Duke.

He's already the highest paid OC.

Oct 30, 2012, 11:11 PM

So priority #1 = check

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why would anyone turn down $2+ million and a HC job....

Oct 30, 2012, 11:13 PM

to be the highest paid assistant coach?

Does not compute.

Concur with your undramatic point Mr. Solid Orange***

Did I say he'd turn it down?

Oct 30, 2012, 11:28 PM [ in reply to Why would anyone turn down $2+ million and a HC job.... ]

But have you ever heard of someone waiting for the right opportunity?

He's in a situation now where he has that luxury.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

True, but the right offer COULD quickly uproot him.***

Ark. Will more than likely hire Tommy Turbeville,

Oct 30, 2012, 11:30 PM

Tenn, and Auburn will only hire proven head coaches this time around they can not afford another bad hire. Not sure Kentucky will fire there coach this season they are basically a dead end program. I could see him taking the Texas Tech job but not sure they would hire a OC with only three years of coaching at the college level.

There's a lot of buzz that Arkansas first calls will be to Gary Patterson and Art Briles. Tennessee has their man crush on Gruden, and Auburn will surely look at Malzhan.

Yeah , I remember when Gus Malazon sp was the hottest OC and could go anywhere , but Cam left and see what he is doing now .

Dont rush him off , he has something to prove before he goes anywhere .

I think he loves Clemson and is very comfortable .

Coach Morris will be gone eventually!

Oct 31, 2012, 12:08 AM

It would suck balls if we switch back to our regular pro-style offense we been running for 100 years once Coach Morris leaves. Those type of offense will never work at Clemson because we will never recruit big time OL.

Morris offense is our new identity, if we wanna stay a major player in ACC and have a chance to goto BCS every year we need Morris type offense even without him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not this year, it took 3 tries to lure him out of

Oct 31, 2012, 12:58 AM

High School. Also with making a mill a year to only have to worry about Offense is pretty tough to leave. I think he is here at least 3 more years

Oct 31, 2012, 1:30 AM

Dont forget about Charlie Strong as well.

You could have Strong, Malzahn or Tubbs to Arkansas

Auburn of course will attract someone but I dont think Auburn will choose a coordinator.

Dont know who is in play at Kentucky or Tenn but Kentucky might would take a chance on Morris but Tenn will probably not look at him.

And then of course depending on which coach comes from where, those spots will open up as well as someone already mentioned, Texas Tech, possibly Baylor.

Just speculation at this point but will be interesting.

Your history of Clemson football must be limited to 10 years

Oct 31, 2012, 9:00 AM [ in reply to Coach Morris will be gone eventually! ]

Clemson made our name on big physical OL and DL. Its only a recent thing that we haven't played physical football.

Its easier to build a program with good OL than it is to get 5-star skill players every year.

yeah thats why we have a long standing tradition of

offenses that caused nothing but fireworks, go look at our offensive history, our team has always been traditional defensive team, thats main reason why our current team is shattering all the previous offensive school records.

At least not after this season.

Yep hard to live of 1.3 per. Lots of head coaches can't touch that.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's not going anywhere... (long-ish)

Oct 31, 2012, 9:15 AM

Don't forget: Butch Davis is still hanging around and a very good coach. Butch Davis played at Arkansas. So, I imagine he's lobbying hard for that position.

David Cutcliffe, I wouldn't be suprised if he stayed at Duke, but he would probably courted for the UT job.

Chizik's buyout is 7.5 mill at the end of this season, and who really wants to go coach at the doormat of the SEC aka Kentucky?

His daughter is a sophmore or junior in high school this year. He signed the extension and raise to keep his daughter in one area during her high school years. He turned down nearly twice the money for the OSU job for that reason.

He'll be here for at least two more years. And if he gets the recruit he's recruiting hard, maybe even longer.

No worries!
