My unexpert problem with Streeter's comments.

Nov 28, 2022, 3:22 PM

I understand him wanting to stick up for his players, including DJ.

But, I don't understand him giving his first line of defense to be blaming the receivers or the protection.

To the casual observer it appears he is throwing the WRs and the OL under the bus as he defends DJ.

I'd rather see something like, "We had a tough day Saturday, starting with the coaches. We didn't have the players ready to play; we didn't put them in the best position to succeed; we didn't coach them well enough to make the fundamental plays. Plenty of blame to go around. But, it starts with me and my coaches."

If he was pressed on DJ, then he could say, "DJ didn't play particularly well. Neither did the WRs. Neither did the OL. They know that. We know that. It's our job as coaches to fix it."

Are you available to coach offense?

I'm serious.

Nah. I know nothing about X and O stuff...

Nov 28, 2022, 3:32 PM

....at least nothing about it at the College level.

But, I'm old. I've been around 70+ years. I've been a football fan since before I could walk. I've seen enough interviews to have an idea how a coach can give a non-answer to a question he shouldn't answer. I could coach Streeter on how to do that better than he is now.

Example of a person who was coached very well on that. Years ago Bob Stoops was the OC coordinator. It was generally known during the season that he would be pursued by Oklahoma (a job he eventually took). His wife was being interviewed before a game fairly late in the season on the Gator radio network. She was asked about how she would feel about Bob getting a great offer to be the HC at Oklahoma. She very calmly replied, "Bob and I know the best job in the world is the one you have now."

If I were Dabo I would seriously think about talking to Streeter about not doing interviews definitely hasn’t helped himself. You could see the rage in his face when Hood asked him about Cade.

If anyone is expecting anything different against NC. Same 5 plays and same dumb coaching decisions. Dabo needs help. He is wasting some of the best talent we have had in years. No coaching. Same results

I haven't heard enough of that either - you should be the speechwriter for this coaching staff.

well sense when has the truth been a bad thing? I did not hear what He said but I doubt he threw anyone under the bus! But the line could have blocked better and the receivers could have gotten open and caught the ball. yes DJ could have thrown it better!
But at the end of everything sometimes you just have to tip your cap.

Re: My unexpert problem with Streeter's comments.

Nov 28, 2022, 3:31 PM

Agree - Coach Streeter needs to take responsibility first and foremost. Either because we done have the talent, we have not developed them, we did not get them prepared for the game or we did not make the correct in game adjustments. It is a poor answer to deflect questions about DJ to blame other position players, whether or not its accurate. If we want to not blame any players, then don't blame any players.

Nov 28, 2022, 3:32 PM

The problem about blaming yourself for the team's failings is that after awhile, people believe you are the problem and while you may think you are stepping up because it is the 'right' thing to do, people end up taking you at your word and you just talked yourself out of a lucrative job. It's not ALL on Streeter and most people know that. Still, the point is well taken he should probably not be giving interviews until he's taken a few classes on it. In this day and age, if you are going to go on television, you better be polished.

Nov 28, 2022, 3:44 PM

I made a post Sunday about how shocked I was at the poor passing performance.

Heck, I was surprised CK didn't play in the third quarter as I watched that game. It seemed clear to me that DJ was struggling the whole game.

Heck, I made a comment to a friend of mine after the game, "I expect Cade to start against UNC."

I'm just saying that the coaches should publicly start with placing the blame on their shoulders. We saw the game. We don't need coaches to tell us who stunk it up on the field. The coaches need to be saying, "I know what the problem is and it's my job to fix it."

I think it is not all on Streeter. However 99 percent is no leadership . It begins with Streeter. He should be a leader not a always behind trying to make excuses for the poor playing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are right. Streeter hasn't earned ...

Nov 28, 2022, 3:39 PM [ in reply to Re: My unexpert problem with Streeter's comments. ]

... the respect of the public to blame himself. But, he doesn't work for the public. He works for Dabo. And, I'll guarantee you, Dabo has some strong opinions on how much responsibility falls on Streeter. And, Streeter's comments nor the public reaction to anything Streeter says will have any affect on Dabo's opinion.

I posted the conversation Mark Richt had with Bobby Bowden early in his career. I suspect Dabo has had a similar conversation with Streeter. "Hey, the players didn't block well, they didn't run good routes, they dropped way too many passes, and DJ didn't throw well or make good reads when he did have time. Is that their fault, is it my fault, or is it your fault?"

You are more mature & intelligent (older) than Streeter

Nov 28, 2022, 3:38 PM

Spent less time around football I'd imagine, but well said.

Beamer's game plan was to make DJ beat South Carolina with the pass -- it worked to perfection.

Beamer was essentially saying to DJU and Streeter you're inept and incompetent unable to decipher the most obvious and make adjustments.

we'll look forward to doing the same next year because you'll still be completely clueless!

Nov 28, 2022, 4:20 PM [ in reply to You are more mature & intelligent (older) than Streeter ]

That was the game plan from the opening kickoff.. problem is they still couldn’t stop the run so DJ didn’t have to beat them with his arm.. Streeter and Dabo forced that on DJ not Beamer

He's stuck in an illogical, irrational position defending DJ

Nov 28, 2022, 3:45 PM

so you can expect garbage to come out of his mouth. I don't know if he's just careless and frustrated because it isn't his decision, or if it is his decision and he's angry. Either way, he's just making excuses to defend his (or Dabo's) wrong decision.

..and the talking points have never been rewritten the past 2 seasons: "DJ is our QB, and everyone else played bad". Dabo's ROY bus has been hijacked and he's throwing everyone under it except the chosen one. Yikes!

Good stuff Bret.

For all those to remember....when your HC is this actively involved in calling plays, that means he doesn't completely trust the OC. Thats not to say HCs shouldn't have a say or be somewhat involved, but Dabo is very involved.

I didn't like Streeter getting the OC job...and the offense has been putrid for a number of reasons, but its not all on Streeter........there is another......

It's almost gotten to the point that it seems D.J. must have "naked pictures" of someone on staff. Not literally, but I am beginning to wonder if there was a big recruiting violation to get him. This situation has gone past absurd.

That's just it - and I've said it over and over - yes, our

Nov 28, 2022, 4:12 PM

WRs did drop a few passes (3, to be exact, and DJ would have been 11 for 29 instead of 8 for 29 - big whoop), and our safeties were way out of position too much, and we did fumble at key times, so yes, there was plenty of blame to go around, and Streeter and Dabo have no problem pointing the finger at any of those. Yet, DJ objectively stunk it up, the man who leads the offense and touches the ball on every single play, stunk to high heaven, yet mention his name and Dabo and Streeter immediately bow up and get angry and defensive, and deflect right back to the other problems.

I agree 100%. When somebody asks "What's wrong with DJ?", or "Since DJ is struggling, is there any chance we will see Klubnick?", assuming Cade really isn't quite ready or and struggling, injured DJ truly still gives us the best chance to win, then understand these are fair, reasonable questions, and don't get mad, but answer accordingly... like

"Sure, we are disappointed in our QB play, it's not what we expect and we've got to do better. There are issues there that we are working on, but DJ still gives us the best chance to win, in spite of all of that". But keep in mind, this isn't all on DJ; we turned the ball over too much, our safeties played poorly, we dropped passes, and with a few exceptions, we just executed poorly and gave inconsistent effort."

Acknowledge that DJ has played poorly, don't hide from it; address it. There are no excuses or rationalizations for how awful he was Saturday, and any such attempts sound foolish and deceptive.

Sorry if I just repeated what you said, but for crying out loud, it's totally bizarre. I mean, we all see that the emperor has no clothes, and we are expected to just go along with the charade with no explanation and without questioning.

Re: My unexpert problem with Streeter's comments.

Nov 28, 2022, 4:19 PM

Can anyone remind me of Streeter's QB history? Did I hear he was struggling and the coach helped his confidence by simplifying the offense or something like that? I feel like he is stubbornly projecting himself onto DJ and won't give up or at least make the right decision due to the tint in his glasses. It's as if Streeter cannot see that you don't just get DJ his confidence back like that. It's not even his job to get his confidence back - that's on DJ. The coaches job is to put the best guy on the field but we don't know who the best guy is because they haven't made a real effort and bringing Cade into the picture. He's been treated like a distant 2nd string QB.

There is no benefit to holding back a 2nd string QB when playtime and development helps. After Cade was a top recruit and very well could be a top tier college QB. Streeter played at a time when clemson and out coaches sucked. He's coaching like we are the same.

Streeter’s interview told me all I need to know about that guy. Basically blames everyone else but DJ. How you can sit and defend his play with a straight face ?
Tells me he is full of BS.
