Arch Manning… 3 mill…potential NIL

Apr 1, 2022, 7:54 AM

Will Clemson be able to stay in the game with recruiting?

Seems like this is a godsend for some school and a death knell for others

Arch Manning could make 3 million per year at Wofford due to him family connections with big brands. Yes the media will make a big deal about it and the school he lands at will get publicity for "providing such a lucrative NIL contract". The reality is Peyton and Eli could set him up with any number of endorsements as a stipulation of their own contract. He is the exception not the rule.

I agree 100% he’s gonna get paid because of his name

Apr 1, 2022, 8:30 AM

Which is the intent of allowing players to profit off of name image and likeness. The problem is that he SHOULD be the rule not the exception. Players who have earned notoriety through their performance or charisma should be allowed to profit from it just like anyone else in this country; it’s the players who are faceless nameless position players, that are getting paid by these collectives, that are the problem. Guys like Trevor, Arch, Tua; and even smaller schools like McKenzie Milton and Desmond Ridder are famous in spite of their institution and should reap the benefits of it. The last two guys are even examples of how NIL could help smaller schools. Had those two enrolled at BAM OSU or FSU out of college who knows if they would have ever even become starters. Being the big fish in a small pond helped to jump start their careers. But this nonsense of paying the top 10 offensive lineman 50K a year just because they chose to live in Austin is an existential threat to college football; unfortunately we don’t have a governing body that is capable of fixing it. I think our only hope is the US congress which is where hope goes to die.

I think you are over estimating the value of a 18 year old QB. They are not famous in spite of their institutions, in fact they are only famous, at that early age, because the institutions exist. The NCAA has given players a platform to show their talent at an earlier age than the NFL will allow.

Would you care if Trever, Arch, or Tua was in a TV commercial if they were part of a D league and did not play college football. Do you know Jackson Jobe, Jordan Lawlar, or Frank Mozzicato?

Players should have always had the opportunity to earn money as a student athletes and you are right the collectives do go against the spirt of NIL, but I also argue "fair market value" for 18 year old players should be weighted heavily when allowing contracts.

I keep hearing "fair market" and "free market" used in relation to the NIL deals but it's not a fair/free market. The NCAA rules state that they can't lock a player into a school. How many employees are allowed to keep their pay if they move away from their employer? How fast will the media run for the fainting couches as soon as a player is cut due to injury? Fair/Free market means I can hire the opposing teams OC just before the playoffs. The current state of NCAA football is anything but free/fair market and the current level of cherry picking seems to favor the players.

Tua wasn’t famous just because he was Bama’s QB; he was famous because he was good enough to be Their QB. He woulda been famous had he been the QB at OSU, Texas, Oklahoma, USC…. You’re right the institution of college football provides a platform that helps them to add to their prominence, and I have no problem with a player profiting from that. Lord knows a lot of people who aren’t playing or coaching in the game do. My issue is the use of NIL as a recruiting inducement. There may not be a way to eliminate that from the equation, but we don’t know cause no one has even tried.

The better question is if Clemson wants to operate a minor league pro football league. Personally i would rather let the aTm Bama and other win at all cost schools have the NIL teams and Clemson join other like minded schools to play in a league which follows the student athlete model.

That's exactly how I feel jstone
This buying players is sure making me lose interest in it..But hey, atleast the kids get rich..something I've worked for for over 30 years and still haven't accomplished..

You aren't as good at something as these kids are and didn't display the potential or commitment they did.

Wow. Maybe he’s the best in the country at what he does but it is in a low margin industry where you get paid a decent wage but never get “rich” instead of being in the sports or entertainment industries where the salaries are ridiculous and many of those described above cannot even afford ticket prices.

I guess you're right...I work at a company making stuff that they sell for millions of dollars profit while I'm paid scraps to barley survive on..and the work is very hard and physical, not some desk job..but if I could've gone to college for free then I'd probably be sitting at a desk, so spare me about hard work..I already know

If that were to happen, Clemson might become a basketball school.

Good for Arch. 99% 0f all college athletes will make zero so maybe Arch will buy lunch for the poor golfers at his school.

At some point university athletic donors will quite giving money for scholarships to kids making more money than they do. I know I will ..... and that's unfortunate to those good kids that will probably get a dime for NIL.

The whole NIL with virtually no rules is complete idiocy.
But I no longer care... I'm just gonna enjoy sports at all levels from now on. Entertain me!!!
