anyone watching Dook/Pitt?

Jan 19, 2021, 11:18 PM

I just turned it on. Duke player falls down while driving to the basket. Slides on his back. The Pitt defender tries to tie him up. Whistles blow. Ref runs in rewarding a timeout to Dook.

Just unbelievable! Did they change the rule in basketball? You can fall down while dribbling, loose your dribble, slide on the floor, and it's not a travel. Or is it just not a travel for Dook?

That was with more than 2 mins left in a 4pt game. They maintained the possession and made it a 2pt game. Thankfully, Pitt didn't fold.

If I understand you correctly, he didn't have possession of the ball while on his back, so no travel.

If he did have possession while sliding, my understanding is that it's all about the feet. Many players are taught to keep them in the air while on the floor so they don't 'take steps' while lying down. OTOH, I've seen less experienced players wrestle on the floor with no call until someone rolls over and touches their foot down, resulting in a travel and turnover.

Not sure if my answer fits the situation.

no, the Dook player had possession while sliding

His feet were up, so maybe that was the distinction. Though, if you ask me, moving without dribbling or a pivot foot is traveling.

The play happened around the 2:15 mark in the 2nd half, if you want to see it.

Could only watch (‘make’ it?) to halftime. Glad to hear Pitt held on for the win. Have not seen Pitt play before - was impressed by what I saw of their starting five.

As for the ‘traveling’ rules, there has undoubtedly been an evolution that has occurred for the past 20 - 30 years with all rules. Most of it is for the better; however, there are a few of the changes that are hard to like and accept for this child of the ‘60s. . . the new ‘traveling’ rule is certainly one of them.

WTH is with the ‘Euro Step’, anyway?!? sigh....

Whatever choice(s) you make makes you. Choose wisely.

Champagnie For Pitt is a beast. Really playing well. Duke won’t be any higher than 8th in the ACC by the end of the season.
