but it sounds like a good idea to me, as long as it's limited. (i.e. we we ain't trying to make em rich) Could effectively teach that hard work pays.

I went to kindergarten in a Christian school, but that's it. My older sister did it through 6th grade, I think, until we moved to Columbia.

In my experience it works like a charm if the kid is not otherwise interested in their grades.

Good grades are an expectation. Less than that is unacceptable.
I do a "dinner of your choice" at the end of the school year for all A's all year.
I've never had a kid not earn the all A's dinner.

GO IN GREENVILLE. DOESN'T MATTER HOW EXPENSIVE IT IS".
Youngest chooses Wendy's (so she could get the frosty) Middle juan chooses ChickfilA. Because kids. And play area. Oldest is all like "FARK THAT I WANT SUSHI".
I'd imagine it will get more expensive as they get older.
And BTW we go as a family so one wins we all win. 3 dinners for party of 5.

Kinda what I was thinking.
1st Quarter Goals A = $10 B = $5 C = $0 – Extra chores. D/F = No Computer/XBOX/Phone entire Q2 / + Extra Chores (And if you get 1–D/F and 5–A’s – you get no money)

1st Quarter Goals A = $10ARENT THEY SUPPOSED TO MAKE A's? B = $5 SO YOU'LL PAY THEM FOR MAKING AN 85? C = $0 – Extra chores.THAT'S NOT TOO BAD. AND I ONLY HAVE TO MAKE A 77. D/F = No Computer/XBOX/Phone entire Q2 / + Extra Chores (And if you get 1–D/F and 5–A’s – you get no money) WHAT ABOUT A GRADE A (NO PUN INTENDED) A$$ WHUPPIN?
Better plan: A=$10 B=##### OFF THIS IS FIRST LOSER AKA 2ND PLACE C=I WILL LITERALLY KILL YOU YOU STUPID $HIT D=I WILL SLASH YOUR BIKE TIRES AND ISIS ON YOUR BARBIES AFTER KILLING YOU F=YOU WILL BE GIVEN A 1-WAY TICKET TO SIBERIA AFTER I KILL YOU, SLASH YOUR BIKE TIRES, AND DECAPITATE YOUR STUFFED ANIMALS AND RAPE YOUR BARBIES

Speaking of which...
Aug 22, 2014, 1:27 PM
|
|
I know I'm new here and everything, but I feel as if I'm close with some of you already. I usually hate doing this, but I'm in need of kitty litter in a bad way, and I'm afraid if I can't get these litter boxes clean, I'm going to lose my adopted children as well. As I mentioned, I'm a recovering crack addict, desperately trying to get on my feet...And while I hate to beg, if anyone could spare a few dollars here and there, it would literally save what family I have left. I'll do any kind of work you may need around the house, etc., as I'm very handy with tools and carpentry work. However, I must note that I have a terrible back from my years in the service, and am currently in a wheel chair. I've also got severe arthritis in both hands, so they don't work as well as they used to LOL!
Any help would be appreciated guys, God Bless and GO TiGeRs!

I have high expectations but will not pay them for grades.
Aug 22, 2014, 1:30 PM
|

If they don't make good grades then I offer assistance and take things away from them. However, I believe in instilling in them the desire for success on their own and shower them with praise and love when they do well. When they don't, I still love them but give them consequences. Maybe I'm just old fashioned but it has worked for 3 kids so far.

And has worked great for my oldest. He gets mostly all A's a couple B's. But my youngest has been a struggle. He is totally opposite and granted had a hard 2013 with being removed from his mother due to all her personal issues. So just weighing all the options here and getting different opinions.

making grades is paramount to being successful in life. And that college is not optional, it's what you do after HS.
Ask them about school, help them with homework, let them know it's THE most important thing in their lives behind family and faith if religious.
Ask for their best. Demand that they work hard. And if their best is a C or a B then that's ok.
If they make a B because they didn't work hard, that's where i have a problem. I have one kid that is literally capable of making 100 in everything. She makes a 94 and I'm asking "what happened"? Another of mine has to fight her brains out to make a 93 in a subject. So a 93 is ok.
Work hard, take pride in results, school is important. I think that's the best guidance here.

Yes I did with my youngest two but only for the core subjects (like math, science, history, etc.). Worked for one and not at all for the second. Don't think I would attempt this experiment again.

and their grandfather loaded the bucks on them all the way through.
I don't know that it makes any difference at all. Both kids are high achievers and happily, talented. My oldest would have done well no matter what, I think. His motivation was his nerdy friends. A little the same with the youngest, but that one is tremendousaly lazy and gets by on minimal effort.
Peer pressure is a huge motivator and often, you can't determine who their mates will be. If you can put them in an environment to achieve, I think you're most of the way home, whether you pay them or not.

Another thing is to immediately put them in manacles as soon as they get home from skool and threaten them with watching Independence Day if they don't do their homework.
They hate Independence Day because Independence Day.
