Anyone remember the Buzzard....

Talk about offending people. Perhaps some of you were writers or editors of the Buzzard

I recall one year, the sports page had a Clemson baseball player who was scratching himself and the headlines read, "Tigers handle sticky sitution."

Here is one from 1979 (hope th elink works)....

Looks like it was a fun paper, doubt the Buzzard could fly in today's woke weather.

Stroh's beer has a fun add in there. It was popular back when. I had friends who liked it.

"Stroh's was the third largest brewing enterprise in America: it owned seven brewing plants and according to Forbes reached the market value of $700 million in 1988.

The Stroh family lost over $700 million, decimating its fortune."

Wow. A lot raunchier than I remember, but maybe that was just the editor's decision. I was there in the 80's.

standards in The Buzzard, there never would have BEEN The Buzzard in the first place. And yes, I find that sad.

I took some photos for the Buzzard in the late '80's. It was a fun thing to do, but I don't think we were allowed to use swear words like this copy shows.
And the Chanello's Ad... I really miss Chanello's. Loved that place.

I miss them too - especially the Vesuvian Steak sandwich.

During my stint as Editor of "The Tiger" in the 60's

we published "The Buzzard" once a year, usually in the spring as a spoof of a variety of things associated with Clemson.

The readership enjoyed it, as we printed overruns of copies, which were quickly grabbed up by students, faculty and administrators alike. Meant to be in good fun, we were cautious about language and content, making sure everyone knew no personal attacks were intended. Can't attest to later editions after my time, but we had a good time creating the rag.

Wow, I forgot about it. Yes, was good fun. I think we all enjoyed it.

I believe my friend Steve Ellis R.I.P. worked on some of them. I remember the "Trader Tates" car lot add with a picture of the BB players Monte Carlos and Trans Ams parked at Littlejohn. My dad loved it when I brought a copy home.
