Anyone recommend a good machete?

Nov 22, 2021, 12:15 PM

Both Home Depot and Amazon have just terrible reviews on what they sell recently. Mainly due to cheap steel. Even the Gerber ones.

Now I'm flagged at work for searching for a good machete.

you loppin heads, weeds, or heavy brush?

I keep a Gerber Gator Jr in my Jeep between the seat and console. With sheath, it functions exactly like those Seat Gap Fillers, totally hidden from view. No one in the vehicle has ever noticed it.

It's small and NOT very stout at all, I just have it "in case". Very agile little tool.

I think RH swears by the Camillus Carnivore for lopping heads. Thing weighs 10 pounds.

Gotta sharpen the Camillus regularly, but it does stand up

to abuse. That's my trekking through the woods in the winter go-to. Not bad at all for a cheap Walmart machete. I've pried stuff out of the ground, dug with it...it doesn't hold an edge like some but you can't damage it. It is heavy like you said.

And oddly, the little knife that comes with it does hold an
