IMHO, based on the speed and toughness of big brother Nolan, Cole has the genetics to help the Tigers out on the field. My recollection is Dabo saying Cole has speed.

If asked, some of our coaches would say he was not ready until they actually used him. They would obfuscate and dance around any questions and never actually answer any question!

I'd have to say he qualifies as a friend. The Turners have given a good bit to Clemson over the years. OK with me even if he wasn't ever good. And BTW, Clay is pretty good himself. At least both catch the ball.

Nolan and Cole were parts of the F&F offers but both have worked out. The thing is there were plenty of others who did not work out so wise posters should not take one example from either group to prove they are right or wrong on the issue.

I with the group that thinks Dabo has done exactly the right thing with the Turners, his boys, and boys of other friends. First, the Turners are darn good football players and I expect a lot from Cole. Second, when has a Swinney boy dropped a snap or messed up a field goal or extra point? Maybe never! Both Will and Drew can catch and I have yet to see Drew drop a pass and is a pretty shifty runner ..... better than Will, I think! I hope Dabo has more friends like the Turners!

True statements, but what other players that didn’t have the last name Swinney/Turner/Venables, never got the opportunity to catch, let alone drop a pass or snap? Just say’in….

Here's my 2 cents on coach's sons getting scholarships....
Holders... Swinney boys and Jeff Scott as a RS freshman. Did they do a good job? Yes, they did. Did they ever mishandle a snap? No, they did not. But don't tell me there aren't 40 guys on the roster that are more athletic, can run faster and have been there longer than them putting in the work to see the field. Why not have our 3rd string QB holding?
You also have the Venables boys, the Batson boy, etc...
Turners don't count in my mind... they got a shot b/c of their dad's relationship with Dabo, but you can't tell me Nolan Turner wasn't good enough. Cole looks the part too.
It is part of Dabo's family culture that is good to see children on the team, but not a scholarship please. With what the staff make, its ridiculous.
But, on the flip side, that is life. Its not what you know, its who you know that really matter.
If it keeps Dabo here, that is excellent. But I don't see how it can go over well in the locker room.
Did it work out for us having Jeff Scott get to hold on extra points b/c his dad was a coach? Yes it did, so I see the irony too.

I'll tell you exactly why the Swinney boys were holders on kicks. Dabo trusts them. He didn't have to build a new relationship with them. He knows they also know exactly how demanding he is. They never got more than a handful of plays a game at receiver yet people act like he ran them out there 40 plays per game. If those boys had any other name than Swinney no one would have batted an eye, but because of the name they carry its apparently a negative on them with a subset of the fanbase for some reason.

Nolan was never out of position The only time he failed to make plays was due to his lack of speed. He was an excellent leader in the secondary.

It wasn't speed. Nolan had pretty decent speed. His issue were his hips/agility so he turned slower and often got beat by very fast receivers.

They believe he runs a 4.4 and he has great hands and is 6'2. He is here because he has really good FBS attributes.
I can't wait to see him perform for the Tigers even more than we has so far.

Don’t care if Dabo has these two’s kids come play at Clemson. He kept his word to his friend. I’m critical of Dabo and his decisions sometimes but I don’t fault him for keeping his word.

It's fine to bring in a friends and family member who is talented and could earn a spot on the roster based on their own merit. Jake Venables wasn't an NFL linebacker, but he was talented and played very hard. He was also a natural leader. Tyler wasn't as good but still good enough. The Swinney boys took scholarships away from more deserving players who needed it more, so a lot of people resented them. Most Daniel players aren't good enough to crack the three deep, so that's why it irritates people, even though a couple have been pretty good.

Is Cole Turner on the coaching staff? I think that's what most was getting at with the F&F ordeal, all the former alumn at position coaches.
