Anybody watch the meteor shower last night?

Aug 12, 2020, 3:31 PM

Took some of the family up on Jocassee last night. Counted 244 from 11 to 4. Peak was probably 2 to 3 am. Pretty good show. Especially since the sky cleared for most of it.

Tell me where the best place you ever saw a meteor shower was.

Anymore showers coming up? Might check it out.

It will be going the next few nights. If you live where it

Aug 12, 2020, 4:16 PM

will not be cloudy tonight or tomorrow night you should check it out.

You're always welcome.

I took a shower after exercising this evening.

But you probably wouldn’t want to check that out.

I thought about it but I am glad you stayed up all night

Aug 12, 2020, 3:59 PM

I also wanted to see the comet but missed that one also

I tried to see the comet, but it was always cloudy on the horizon when I tried to find it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Too overcast for me to see it.

I saw the persiad meteor shower back in 2000 from the Stowe Botanical Gardens out in the country. That was a shower where you could not keep count.

Yeah, most years this time of year the skies are at least

partly cloudy. We got lucky last night.

I didn't watch but you were in the right place.

I was in OBX a few years ago fishing in October. There was supposed to be some type of shower. Thought it would be ideal to watch from the dunes. After dark, some type of nuclear mosquitoes came over from the sound side. No amount of "OFF" made any difference. We bailed after 10 minutes.

That's a shame. I've had that happen before and it

definitely takes the fun out of the evening.

The best meteor shower I have ever seen was back in 80 or 81. Myself and an engineer from work. We drove all night from Tampa Fla. to Spartanburg S.C.. I mean it put on a great show all night while we were cruising down the Interstate Highways.

Went outside for about 20-30 minutes ~ 12:30

Aug 12, 2020, 8:17 PM

Saw a few of them, a couple really bright ones. Started to get a bit cloudy and too much light to see many though. Best I’ve seen was on the Blue Ridge Parkway prob 20 years ago.

If you like that kind of stuff there is a really cool app, SkyPortal by Celestron. I use that and like it a lot, used it last night to find where the meteor shower would be

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would have liked to go that far. But I worried it would

Aug 12, 2020, 8:50 PM

be cloudy. "Maybe next year."

Thanks for the info.

Good for you. Only a single streak between 2 and 3 despite a fairly clear sky. Lots of lighting in the East. Disappointing

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's a shame.

You can still the milky way up on Jocassee. And as one fisherman once said "It's darker'n dark back in the Horsepasture with a new moon.
