would always call out the lead block by the fullback as if it was the only good play made. Watch this guy's blocking

handoff to the FB or a fake to the FB in the triple option. I was a FB on the freshman team but was switched to TE for 10, 11, 12. BTW TE on wishbone teams mean you run pass plays in practice everyday yet on Friday nights we just ran the ball down your throat. Maybe 2-3 passes a game. B lock, block and block.

Speaking of Fullbacks....need some help. When I was a young'n living in Cola most my family lived in Lancaster. There was a FB named Muletrain McQuirt that was supposed to go to Clemson. Was a kid so the only thing I followed was girls. Don't know why his name pops in my gourd anytime I hear FB mentioned....but it does. Anybody else member, early 60's???

I was traveling near Durham on biz one day & decided to drop in at Wallace Wade Stadium to see TiGER's JV Team play..and had one of the most fun football days in my life screaming for this Dude..to run or block. they won, narrowly!

wasn't really a JV team, was the rats. Freshmen weren't eligible back then and if you weren't a true freshman you couldn't play. they had a six game season. Usually played Ga, Wake Forest, Duke, USCjr, Furman, and one other.
If he is the guy I am thinking about from early 60s, he could never get eligible to play varsity.

You are correct. He was a classmate of mine, 1959-1963.

muletrain is definitely a name that needs to be revived

the most fun thing about McQuirt was hearing Frank Howard say his name.

There's no McQuirt listed as a letterman in one my football annuals. There is a Bill McGuirt who lettered in '60 and '61. I think this is the guy.

Back in the day we had some real studs at fullback. Most of them were bigger than the tackles, and Frank loved to run them.
