Another typical sorry crowd in Durham.

That is embarrassing for the ACC when they know very well that they can do 100% better in Greenville. I really don't know what these idiots are thinking keeping the tournament in Durham.

They are reserved to the fact that keeping it in NC out trumps putting it in SC. It’s been this way since 1995, the last time it was in Gvl.

doesn't help. yet another reason the conference is second rate in the big three sports.

Announcers struggled to put a positive spin on the format. Anybody know why we use this pool system?

Opportunity to increase conf. Revenue in Gville

7

May 24, 2023, 9:53 PM

Surely the conference would generate more ticket money by having it in Greenville. The triangle schools have shown they won’t show up and support the tourney even though the three schools are within 30 minutes of the DBAP. And Wake is an hour down the road and the number 1 team in the country.
Mike Martin is retired. He was one of the main reasons it got yanked out of Greenville.

They should play at Hodgetown here in Amarillo. Home of the Sodpodles a Diamondbacks affiliate. Nice ballpark, only about 4-5 years old. I could get a crowd twice this size together to attend…

Greenville screwed up when they got in a power struggle with the AA Braves. They wanted a new stadium and the local govt said no. The Braves left and guess what happened? Greenville built a new stadium for a single A team.

From what I remember when I lived there. The ACC tournament was well received. This was when Clemson was a power. There seemed to e a lot of backlash saying it was a home field advantage for us and the push was on to get it moved.

It was really nice having it in Greenville being a nice central ACC location with Greenville offering a lot of entertainment. The downtown wasn’t as nice as it is now but still very nice.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Duke, NC State, & UNC closer to Durham than CU to Gville.

1

May 24, 2023, 10:38 PM

Durham is a good central location for most of the ACC, but that’s not a particularly good excuse when Greenville is a more lucrative site.

Greenville turned out just fine. Fluor Field is a gem and helped transform the West End. The Braves are notorious for squeezing taxpayers in Rome, Pearl, MS, Gwinnett and Cobb County.

Pearl, MS may have a double A team, but they also have a huge % of their small town budget still servicing debt on their stadium and a near junk bond level credit rating.

The Greenville A team also has more than double attendance of the Pearl Mississippi AA Braves.

I’m pretty sure Boston paid for the Greenville stadium

1

May 25, 2023, 10:20 PM [ in reply to Re: Another typical sorry crowd in Durham. ]

At least at lot larger portion than the Braves would foot. I hate that it’s a Red Sox team but Greenvilles in a much better situation in every way but the level of the team.

The tournament was ultra successful in Greenville every year it was there. It's floundered every year since they have moved it. The ACC is plain stupid for not seeing it!

Same idiots that thought basketball drove the bus;. And also the same idiots that leech off of us and expect us to take tens and tens of millions of dollars less every year to ensure their success when they don’t invest in their football programs.

Should be in Greenville or Charlotte every single year.

Why not put it in Pelican's Stadium in Myrtle Beach? Most of the Syracuse & Boston College fans will already be in town. Many of the Black Bike Week attendees would also love the opportunity to see some baseball.

I’m all about moving it to Greenville

2

May 25, 2023, 8:20 AM

And it would be packed for every Clemson game for sure. But do you really think we would have many more people at a BC-VT baseball game on a weekday afternoon? That’s a hard sell no matter where it is. I’m pretty sure they had 11,000 at a UNC-NCSU championship game in Durham one year.

I’d love for it to come to Greenville and think it should at this point but just trying to paint a realistic picture.

The ACC's logic = UNC's education for athletes.

Duke is located in Durham. Clemson is not located in Greenville, yet it was unfair to have the tournament in Greenville because it gave Clemson an advantage. OK.

It should be in Charlotte. Better stadium, bigger city with more hotels, better airport...all of this would help with attendance.

Enough of the Greenville talk, that train left the station many years ago and ain't coming back.
