so they are still in flux. It wouldn’t take this long if their first candidate accepted or at least that’s the feel of it to me.

I believe the OP above has it correct. From what I have heard, OU is interested in someone who has been a successful head coach. Venables is simply not the first choice. One of the reasons Venables has not commented on the situation is that he has not been offered the job, nor, to the best of my knowledge, even been interviewed for the position.
Should their initial choices decline, and they offer Venables the position, I assume there is a good chance he would take it, depending on what all is offered. Let's hope it does not get that far.

in the opposite direction. Combined worth spit. There’s plenty more information than not to suggest he isn’t interested, which, why the way, is really the point.

You think?
You know they love their offense in Sooner Nation! They are going to have to have some defense in the SEC though; so who knows.

I think they know they need a coach that can beat SEC offenses. They’ll recycle the same offense, which if they have the OL, won’t matter what they run in the SEC.

Their #1 priority right now is keeping Caleb Williams--keeping him happy with a coach that is very offensive-minded. Or...losing him to the jerk who just quit and is taking their players.

With all due respect, ya'll are in denial if you think BV doesnt want this job. And this $5M pay raise. "Signs point to he's not interested" like what? I'm genuinely curious to hear all this info that the rest of us are missing?

Agree that coach V is 3rd or 4th choice and most likely has not been interviewed. He may have let OU AD know he is interested.

Read this yesterday. There's one that came out late today from SI with a good synopsis on all the names. But my little TD fairy didn't like it for some reason.
I'd like to know where this former ou football player Lehman, host of the ou talk radio show, gets his info. Is he like Walt? Any Tigers in Norman that listen to his show? Is he legit. Anyway, here's his quote from the SI article:
...One name widely believed to be a strong candidate — many former Sooners certainly want him back in Norman — is Brent Venables. The former Bob Stoops lieutenant and current Clemson defensive coordinator “wants the job. That is a fact,” former OU All-American linebacker Teddy Lehman said during his radio show, and has gotten broad support from his old players....

I think he's legit. Him and Parker Thune seem to be the only ones giving insider info that seem to have actual sources in the building. I think they are 247 reporters and radio hosts.
Parker Thune was pretty confident in BV 2 or 3 days ago. Said he felt it was done barring some sort of hitch. Then yesterday he started to dial back saying there was more guys in the process and that some are in CCG this saturday. Tonight he is saying there is "some new stuff going on" and he's much less chatty about it.

The OU fans do seem to want him. But, the AD and others know they are in a precarious situation, especially with their quarterback. I think BV is interested--if not he would have already dispelled the rumors.

The former Bob Stoops lieutenant and current Clemson defensive coordinator has told people is isn’t leaving Clemson. That is a fact.

believe we have been reading and hearing nothing more than pure speculation, rumors and wishful thinking among the media, sports' fans and Oklahoma folks, including former players.
There has been absolutely nothing printed, aired or otherwise posed to cause me to change my opinion.
Thus, I've decided to go on about my business, as usual, and let others fret, fume and fuss. It is interesting and entertaining to read some of the chatter, even commenting occasionally, which is precisely what I think my good friends here on TNet are doing.
We'll see what we see when we see it, so the old saying goes.

Don’t forget why Brent left the Sooners in the first place-Ol’ Stoops made his brother Co-Coordinator. I personally believe that turned a page for Coach V and he values Coach Swinneys integrity over an experimental adventure ushering OK into the SEC.
