Another puzzle...why do Buckeyes think our DLine is small?

Dec 23, 2019, 3:04 PM

They keep talking about how our DLine is undersized and how they'll wear us down with the All-World Offensive Line...you know, the one that gives up more sacks, allows their RB to get less yards per carry and is basically behind Clemson in all statistics.

But I just looked at their depth chart vs ours (to be fair, this is at some random point this season...I don't know if it is the current rotation).

Ours read:
DE Rudolph 245, Foster 265, Henry 250
DT Davis 295, Williams 310, Kelly 305
DT Pinckney 295, Jefferies 280, Orhorhoro 285
DE Thomas 265, Rudolph 245, Mascoll 260

Theirs:
DE Cooper 257, Harrison 255, Friday 260
NT Hamilton 310, Landers 285, Togiai 300
DT Cornell 285, Garrett 295, Jackson 299
DE Young 265, Smith 267, Jean-Baptists 245

Based on that, it looks like our starting four average 275 to their 279. And the three deep is 275 to their 277.

What am I missing? Every narrative they throw at us as to why they have an advantage seems to not actually be true. How is their OLine better than ours? How is our DLine undersized? Aside from the "battle tested" deal, I don't see any truth to any of it.

Because they haven’t played us yet...because they are delusional...wishful thinking...take your pick.

I think they mean with our odd front formations.

Dec 23, 2019, 3:15 PM

3 of our linemen weigh less than 4 of theirs.

They’re just comparing their OL size to our DL size, and

Dec 23, 2019, 3:17 PM

That’s a foolish comparison. Every time our DL or their DL steps on the field they’re smaller than the OL they face, being an effective DL is all about leverage, strength, quickness, and using your hands. The Buckeyes thinking the size differential will be an advantage will be disappointed at the end of the game.

Excellent points. Quickness, agility and smarts are more important than size.

Probably because they remember Big Dex and CW42 who weighed over 650 lbs together.

Our DTs are smaller than last year.

Dec 23, 2019, 3:37 PM

Our defense is very quick. I seem to recall quick 'Bammer defenses and quick Dolphin defenses winning championships in the past. Even Lombardi's Packers were not the biggest team, but very quick and very smart.

Yes, compared to last year we are small but we were HUGE the last 3 years with CW and Dex.

Because some uninformed putz on ESPN probably said something like that, and rather than look at the rosters, they had rather parrot the narrative. They are going to know all they want to know about Clemson Saturday.

Spot it. This is gonna be fun

Why argue with them? They are the best team ever and we are going to get killed because we didn’t play anybody.

Their OL is going to run base running plays straight up the middle like we are Michigan. All of our DL graduated and went to the NFL don’t you remember? We have nothing but walkon Rudy’s up front now.

It’s the same narrative from Aug 15th of this year.

Same story as 1978, 2014, & 2016.

They have more talent, thus we don’t have a chance. Just apply UGA base logic and it will make sense.

Not sure where that view is coming from...Clemson has their utmost attention and respect.

They listen to certain talking heads on TV, radio and Youtube that use that as one of their talking points when matching the 2 teams up. OH31 State gotta grab at what they can.

Dec 23, 2019, 10:19 PM

Just like every game we aren't overwhelming favorites - you have a bunch of new sign ons to tnet. They are probably U of Sux fans posing as that other teams fans. It's the only way they can talk trash to Clemson or so they think - b/c they can't behind the strength of their team.

Same reason you see the Capital cursive letter A all over South Carolina after about 9 games every football season. They must identify with anyone who is a winner so they can feel good about themselves. Sad really!

BV hasn't forgotten how to stop the run. As long as that's the case I think we are alright. If the weight of their OL is the only thing they are "leaning on" it might be a long night. Fact check this - but we have played Bama with monstrous OL's in the past. No; not this season. But, we were probably outweighed then too!

My guess is they outweighed Wisconsin's DL as well. Wisconsin does not have depth along it's DL - we do. Wisconsin gave them all they could handle until they ran out of that initial adrenaline and the depth of Ohio State caught up( to the Buckeyes credit). I like our depth to provide not just some good reps; but some play making reps!

Probably because our Dline just hasn't been that good and is smaller than last years.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They aren’t comparing Clemson’s DLine size to last year’s

Dec 23, 2019, 11:35 PM

Clemson DLine. What I am reading is that our DLine is undersized. Just makes no sense.
