Totally agree!!! I was thinking that if one named the most important coach for each sport in our history, who comes to mind? To me:
Football: Howard/Ford
Basketball (M): Ellis (not sure here)
Basketball (W): Tribble/Davis
Baseball: Wilhelm
Soccer (M): Ibrahim
Soccer (W): ?
Golf: Penly
etc...

The Minnesota Lynx today announced the hiring of Jim Davis as assistant coach. Davis joins Jim Petersen on head coach Jen Gillom's staff. Gillom was named Lynx head coach yesterday.
Davis comes to Minnesota after enjoying a storied coaching career in the collegiate ranks, one that includes 25 years of head coaching experience in the women's game. The Englewood, Tenn., native spent 18 years (1987-2005) as the head women's coach at Clemson University, where he is the all-time winningest coach - men or women - in program history. He finished his career at Clemson with a career head coaching record of 355-197 (.643).
"We're very excited to announce the hiring of Jim Davis," said Lynx Executive Vice President Roger Griffith. "Adding someone with the experience, coaching record and knowledge of the women's game that Jim offers is an incredible hire for us. Much like Jen, Jim brings a winning pedigree and we're extremely pleased to add a coach of his level to our staff. We believe Jim is the perfect complement to Jen Gillom and Jim Petersen."
Davis guided Clemson to 14 NCAA Tournament appearances and led the Lady Tigers to 11 appearances in the final Top-25 rankings. Davis is the only Clemson basketball coach to win an ACC Championship, leading the Lady Tigers to tournament titles in 1996 and 1999. He finished with 51 wins over Top 25 teams, and his teams won 20-or-more games during 11 of his 18 seasons with Clemson.
In the 1987-88 season, his first year as head coach at Clemson, Davis tripled the number of victories from the 1986-87 campaign by turning a 7-21 club into a 21-9 squad in 1987-88. It was also the best turnaround season in the history of the ACC.
"I'm so excited to have the opportunity to work for Jennifer Gillom and Jim Petersen in Minnesota," said Davis. "I am so impressed with the level of commitment of this franchise, from Mr. Taylor and Roger Griffith down to the fans. I am amazed with the amount of talent on this roster. This is a great opportunity for me to work with the premier women athletes in the world and I can't wait to get the season started on June 6 vs. Chicago."
Prior to taking the head coaching position at Clemson, Davis spent one year at Middle Tennessee State where he coached the Lady Raiders to a 19-8 record, which included a 15-game winning streak. Before Davis entered the Division I collegiate ranks, he spent six highly successful years at the junior college level with Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tennessee. There, Davis put together one of the most successful stints ever in the junior college ranks by coaching the Raiderettes to a 127-35 (.784) record. His teams won four Tennessee Junior College Association divisional championships, one state championship, and were ranked in the Top 10 by the NJCAA three times (1981, 1984, 1985). Davis' team finished the 1984 season 27-2, and went on to win the NJCAA National Championship.

He was with Minnesota from 2009-10...then went to Young Harris College as an assistant from 2010-12...He became the head coach at Tennessee Tech in 2012 and is still there. Great person!!
