An opportunity missed

May 17, 2017, 3:21 PM

CU Baseball missed an opportunity last night by failing to honor Coastal Coach Gary Gilmore and his 2016 CWS championship team. Several others in my seated area felt that should have been done. This could have been done in five minutes or less before we took the field in first inning.
Coastal survived the CWS playing against seven other college baseball elites. Our Tigers have been to Omaha twelve times and usually were eliminated early. My faulty memory says we never played in the CWS championship final game in any of those twelve trips. So this was a sensational achievement for Coastal to win it all. We are bigger than that. And should have been last night.

Do you also expect all of our football opponents this year to give us a moment of praise for winning the natty last year?

I did recognize him more than a few times quite vocally throughout the game. And one last time at the final strikeout.

I suppose you expect everyone we play in football this season to take a few minutes out of their pregame rituals and congratulate us for our National Championship, right?

Or is it a state thing, where you only expect The Citadel and USC to honor us?

I fully expect the entire SCAR team to be on their knees ...

... and bowing to us (and chanting "We're not worthy ...") before, during, and after the game in November every year.

But those expectations have nothing to do with whether or not we had won the national championship the previous year.

Louisville, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, NC State and the GameHens do something similar for Clemson (rolling eyes).

Sorry People, I have to agree with him/her on this one. And no, our football opponents and a rivalry is not the same. It would have been a tremendous effort and honor on our part. Nothing big, just a welcome and thank you. It's called supporting our state, and would have been a classy jester.

All that being said you didn't need to bring up how many times we had gone and not won.

Exactly right......after the introductions, something simple like "The Tigers want you to know that the entire State of SC is proud to have you bring home the Natty"

And just to make myself clear.......

I agree, it's called "CLASS", something a vocal few of you on this board don't have or understand.

To recognize the achievements of your opponent, this one a National Champion from a "small" school in our own state, accomplishing something we have never been able to do, would be a class act and something I would have expected at a Clemson baseball game. No big deal, but too bad it didn't happen. These are the things that make Clemson look good in the eyes of the world, especially the fans that support these programs.

It takes very little effort to do the right thing!
