That the Vegas line for the game has gone up from four points to five and a half with DJ in the lineup. Apparently the bookies saw something that they like. I know that I did,

DJ never at any time in the game seem flustered. Quite the opposite, he enjoyed being out there. His passes are, for the most part, crisp and on target. He moves like a runaway train. And pretty fast for a big guy. No turnovers. Three tds. Big comeback win. Couldn't ask for anything more. If there is one thing I'd like to see is for him to connect with one of his receivers over the top. Coach TE needs to unleash him a bit more in South Bend.

After the opening line the bookies don't really set the line...the bettors do. If the line opens at Clemson -3, and 80% of the bets coming in are taking Clemson, then the line increases to get gamblers to take ND. If 80% were taking ND, the line would go down. The sportsbooks opening line is based on a lot of data, and a lot of times it never changes. When it does change you know how bettors are betting. They can also change it if something major happened since the line was set. For example if tomorrow Clemson reported DJ Ugaileilei was out for covid-19. That would change the line a good bit.

I am actually surprised Clemson is favored at all. Not because of Lawrence, but because injuries have hurt the defense noticeably with Skalski still out, and Xavier Thomas, a key player out for the targeting for the first half. It is more surprising since it is at Notre Dame. I am a Clemson lifelong fan, but with the injuries, and suspension, our remaining defense will have to play very well to win. On the bright side, even if they lose it will not keep Clemson out of the playoffs if we win out, including a likely re-match with ND.
