All this talk about facilities...

Jun 1, 2014, 1:11 PM

makes me sick. Could we improve? Of course. We didn't play badly because of our facilities. The fielders are good and we are not lacking in fielding recruiting. We have NEVER been able to recruit the best pitchers. If you only intend to play for 2 years, where are you going to go? Since you don't care about the degree, you are likely to pick a school in an urban setting with lots to do. Perhaps somewhere like Columbia.

On the pitching front, we need a GREAT pitching coach who can recognize rough talent and develop those players into GREAT pitchers. (We had that guy not too long ago and the decline in pitching started when that guy left.) Our decline in quality error-free fielding has nothing to do with the stadium or the talent of the players.

Using facilities as an excuse for underachieving is such a joke.

ability to hire and keep top coaching talent, which that program has struggled to do for decades. Perhaps we're turning the corner in that regard with the new extensive renovation project and BB's extension.

Baseball and basketball is apples to oranges in this state. SC is talent poor in basketball. SC is talent rich in baseball.

No matter what you think, facilities matter. All you have to do is look at what Tommy Bowden started and what Dabo is finishing. I thought that it was time for Bowden to go, but with that said, if it wasn't for his last name, we still might not have gotten many of the upgrades that we enjoy today that has GREATLY impacted recruiting.

I can tell you for a FACT, not fiction, that Leggett has been upset for the last several years about facilities and has recognized that it has hurt recruiting. He knows that what S. Carolina has done with facilities and the money they have invested greatly helped turn the tide. I can tell you that in the all coaches meeting he has been one of the most vocal about baseball facilities as it relates to locker rooms, etc. We often just look the stadium and think everyone want to come here.

It was the same in football. Many of us lived in the past and thought that facilities didn't matter and that just by being a Tiger was enough to get quality guys to come here. We all know that didn't happen. I believe it is partially the same with baseball. We get caught living in the past. But we need to remember that many of the guys we are recruiting today don't know all about Clemson baseball.

Whether Jack should go or stay is not my call, nor should it be from fans. What I do perceive is that we do not have the quality assistant coaches that we used to have and that has hurt along with the aforementioned arguments above.

you know I admit we need to invest in the facilities. But, we are not playing like we are playing because of them. We are playing badly because the players are not prepared. This is NOT due to facilities.
