All this buying players and buying championships talk

Dec 14, 2022, 4:20 PM

Why does everyone think this is something new?

Did we not buy our championship buy investing in multiple million dollar buildings and state of the art everything to attract players?

Teams win championships by playing football on a football field. You can’t pay a player to catch a ball. You can’t pay a QB to throw a ball (lord knows we tried)

The game of football is still played on the gridiron and kids still have to put in the work to win.

Buildings don't quit, opt out or transfer to another school.***

I agree with you to a point! Almost completely actually.

The only difference being now; it's having the ability to "pay players for playing"! There is no rule about paying a player to "not make plays"! If you can pay them to make play; why couldn't you pay them to miss some?

I agree that; an assembly of talent might be enough in basketball or doubles tennis. But, in football, if everyone isn't on the same page "enough" the cracks will catch up and cause that team to lose. As long as the other team can take advantage.
If you watch sports long enough or if you have played: certainly you know the best team does not always win. The team that executes the best wins!

The money in grown mens hands has been a distraction and these people have huge contracts. Think about kids and their ability to handle school plus the football field work plus the NIL work from their sponsor. That's a lot on these kids.

I don't think it's sustainable and right now in the wild wild west of NIL - the money is flowing! I look for it to slow down eventually though.
As some of these ambitious boosters see "as you said" it doesn't guarantee a championship because you still have to execute.
I see them getting less interested in spending millions of dollars on what will likely be spoiled and unmotivated because of their newfound wealth of athletes. Could be wrong, but I can easily see it happening.

This statement is full of holes. We are talking FREE AGENCY with no contracts to hold a player. Highest bidder wins. Smaller schools will not be able to compete. Schools who haven't had a winning season are collecting 5 stars with pure cash payout. This is destroying college football. Roster management will be almost impossible. Poaching of players will be rampant. This is the minors for the NFL.
