Who are some guys you’d like to see make big strides in the 2021 season

Jul 15, 2021, 11:59 AM

I went nothing but defense.
KJ has all the the physical tools to be a dominant pass rusher. Love to see him and XT reach their max potential.
I do want to see more Ruke and Tre Williams but one guy I do want to see make some big strides this year is DeMonte Capehart! He seems like he could be unstoppable and was/ still is a huge fan of him when he signed with us in 2020.
Of course I’d love to see some Patterson and Maguire but Vonta Bentley is one of my favorites coming into the year. Watching him last year and spring game excites me with his potential. That man can move and pop also love the number 42 on him with the neck roll.
I want every DB to be lock down this year but guys I’d like to see step up is Fred Davis and some Nate Wiggins. Both Davis and Wiggins have the length I like to see at corner and both dominated in high school. Would love to see them step up and strengthen our CB core for 2021.
Again same with safeties I want everyone to make some huge strides this year but Jalyn Phillips is a guy who I’ve notices makes plays when he steps in. Seems like a hard hitter and has a lot of potential. I’d also love to see some Thornton and Mickens seems like they have all the potential in the world to be solid safeties. Also excited to see what Mukuba can bring to the table.
Last is Barrett Carter. Don’t really have a position for him besides saying he plays defense but man this guy has super star written all over him. Go Tigers!

On the other side of the ball...

We need for Ladson and Ngata to stay healthy and start living up to their recruiting hype. They've both been here for years, they've got a great QB with a cannon for an arm, and we need them THIS YEAR. If Justyn Ross can return and play at the potential we've already seen from him, and if EJ Williams continues to develop, having Ladson and Ngata finally be a real threat would force opposing defenses to defend the boundary and deep ball constantly we would be a dangerous team. Line those guys up two-wide on each side with a slot receiver, then dare the D to stack the box.

Spread the field, run the ball. And when the defense gets impatient, TORCH 'EM.

Jaelyn Lay
Ladson
Zanders
Ngata

Also a big fan of Bentley. Would like to see him take it to the next level and I believe we will.

I’d like to see Galloway have the type of production that Dwayne Allen, Brandon Ford, Jordan Leggett had.

I like that with Galloway

Jul 15, 2021, 1:15 PM

He can easily be anyone’s worst nightmare matched up.

Davis Allen is definitely another guy who can be a star and even a solid player in the NFL. You cant teach 6’6 250!

When I saw the topic and talked about our WR group I’ve somehow been forgetting about Ajou Ajou. I was thinking Ngata and Ladson, and while I do want them to improve, an improved Ajou would be huge for the offense.

Never will forgot that TD he scored against GT

Jul 15, 2021, 1:30 PM [ in reply to Ajou Ajou is going to opens your eyes . . . ]

He could not be brought down. For his size he has freak of nature ability. I have a feeling will see a couple circus catches from him this year!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not sold on him yet...

Jul 15, 2021, 4:42 PM [ in reply to Ajou Ajou is going to opens your eyes . . . ]

Something about him reminds me of Cornell Powell. The kind of guy who always seems to be on the verge but never really has that dominating performance on the big stage. At this point, garbage time TDs against GT ain't the big stage.

FWIW, Powell's "breakout" season in 2020 came because he was one of the only experienced receivers on the field... so he got his by default. He had to wait until a host of better talent had graduated or left the program to get his. I hope Ajou can come on sooner and accomplish more. We need big play receivers NOW.

Yea, but that’s the Clemson recipe for the most part. The young guys have a longer maturation process because there is usually quality depth ahead of them. Powell waited his turn and would have had a good year even if we had been healthier. It was his time and he took advantage.

Good list of players; I would like to add DJ to that list.

Trenton Simpson! That guy can be a game changer. We would be able to cover an incredible amount of space having him and Barrett Carter on the field at the same time.
