like we are living on another planet. When do we start burning books and destroying the inside of library’s??? We live in a world gone mad.
I can’t believe Coach McDermott was suspended for this statement to his players.
"Guys, we got to stick together. We need both feet in. I need everybody to stay on the plantation. I can't have anybody leave the plantation."

Context is what everyone should keep in mind. What did he really mean by plantation? You’d have to be insane to say that meaning it in a racist way. He’s a very well educated man who would never say that to hurt his team.

and it sounds like things were ultimately handled correctly.
We all grew up using words and phrases to which we don’t assign much meaning or intend to use in an offensive way. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t considered offensive by others. You and I both agree he is a well-educated man...but part of the responsibility that goes along with being educated and aware, is to know/understand when/if we need to modify our speech/communication to better fit the culture/times. That’s not being politically correct, that’s just using that education to evolve as a person.
With that said, are people too quick to find fault or offense where there is no intent...absolutely. But that doesn’t mean we have to treat every criticism as an affront to our sensibilities.
An example I use is my grandfather’s use of the n-word. He used it so much, it had lost its meaning in a practical sense. But when I stopped bringing my young kids around, he saw the harm and modified his behavior. If an illiterate mill worker from the sandhills of SC can grasp this concept, I bet we all can.

Oh it's ridiculous. Just like that crap on the news about Britain and asking what color her baby would be. I wondered the same thing... But always loved Meagan on TV. It's just some things that are culturally inherited in each person. Same thing if I was offended by someone wearing African garments. Does that make them racists. When I sold real estate, we'd always call houses plantation style... Even sold some to African Americans and they were never offended.. Crazy.
If a player told the coach in private, hey coach, wish you wouldn't say that, it offends me. I'm sure the coach would have apologies and kept it internal. Stupid. Its really doing the opposite and pushing ppl further apart.

To ruin people and intimidate. Those that have spoken out against political correctness and now cancel culture have paid the price. People on BOTH sides have to finally come to a point where they’re not trying “to win.” And agree to promote common sense and extend grace. When is that gonna happen? This is the most divisive and adversarial time in maybe all of history. The pettiness and “polarity no matter what” in this day and age is really alarming. All it takes is that one lunatic leader to take this fragile culture and use it for really really bad things. This country is so ripe for the picking right now... all I can say is.. you better know Jesus and buckle up.

He is not a “victim” nor are any of the folks who rush to his support. Coach McDermott’s career is not destroyed. That’s dramatic hyperbole.
Things of this nature will be investigated by almost all Fortune 500 companies, public and private educational institutions, our Military and other major organizations. Most will be quickly resolved through simple interviews with impacted parties and by checking to determine if there’s a history. Not that I’m a fan of Human Resource departments, but they have being doing these type of investigations for 30 years. Creighton’s administration got it right in only 4 days.
In 40 years of management positions in Fortune 100 companies, I was aware or involved in about a dozen such cases. Most were quickly dismissed without any ramifications. In three cases, the investigations revealed a pattern of systemic inappropriate speech regarding sexism and racism towards Hispanics. Those employees were separated with cause. These individuals had no place in tge company interacting with fellow employees or customers. The other cases were closed without prejudice.
These type investigations are not new and have being going on for decades.

I fully understand why people support Trump, I just don't agree with them. I think he will say and do whatever it takes to keep an audience and to stay in power, and to heck with everyone else. That is just my opinion. I actually agreed with a lot of what he campaigned on, I just didn't believe him.

That’s fair enough. That’s how I’ve viewed the Biden and Trump campaigns. Just haven’t believed either of them genuinely. Florida is an interesting place to live because I get a good mix of both parties to take input from.

Gas prices actually increased throughout most of Trump's presidency and only fell when everything crashed last spring and all the lockdowns happened. Anyone could have predicted oil prices would bounce back along with the economy once people started getting vaccinated and states and other countries began reopening. Gas right now is still cheaper than it was at times in 2018 and 2019.
