Some of you are a disgrace

Dec 8, 2014, 6:07 AM

To say you won't go to a bowl game because a certain player is playing is embarrassing and we dont need fans like you at Clemson. I will say that it obviously has been difficult watching our offense at times this season with Cole at QB. He has had plenty of ##### plays but besides playing poorly at times this season, what has Cole Stoudt done for some of you to say you're not attending the bowl game? He's been a team player and has put in alot of hard work for this program. He hasn't got into any trouble and kept his head up when he could of easily gave up. He has played injured when it was obvious at times he was in alot of pain. Instead of getting mad bc Watson isn't playing and saying you're not going to attend the game bc Cole will most likely be our starter, how about we start saying we WILL attend the game and despite some of the poor decision making by Cole, we will support Cole and the rest of these seniors for their hard work and success over these past 4-5yrs.

If a fan can't or won't attend a game, fine; I understand. I've had a prior, long-standing commitment during that time frame, which will prevent me from attending; however, as usual, I'll watch from start-to-finish and cheer loudly for the Tigers.

Denigrating the bowl, Oklahoma, our staff and team serves no purpose, because the fact remains that we WILL play, and EVERY Tiger fan should want a victory!

If Cole did something off the field that embarrassed this program, I would understand not attending the game. But besides not playing well, he hasn't done anything for our fans to not go out and support him his last game in a Clemson uniform. He has helped DW in every game this season. When DW came off the field, Cole was usually always the first person to come over and talk to him on the sideline about what he saw. He could of easily went over on the bench and pouted because he wasnt playing. But he's a better man than that and we can be better fans and go out cheer for him his last game

I think it's stupid to boycott a bowl game based on who's starting, but I can also understand the rationale behind not wanting to spend several hundred dollars to attend a game that we just significantly increased our chances of losing.

I'm more than happy to support Stoudt as a great person, a team player, and all that; but I can't support any decision to play him as our quarterback in any game or series. That is strictly a "business decision". I tried very hard to be supportive during the games that we eked out with him at QB, but knew I was mostly ignoring the evidence. When he threw an INT directly to a SCar defender that everyone on the field, on the sidelines, in the stands, and on the television *EXCEPT* Stoudt saw waiting there to pick off the pass, I threw in the towel. He is a terrible quarterback.

If we're going to rant and rave about being supportive of players who don't have the talent level to be the starter, then let's just go ahead and stick Nick Schuessler in and give us a chance to be supportive of him too.

Could Not Have Summed it up Better...

Dec 8, 2014, 7:45 AM

Going to a Bowl at Christmas for many is not a cheap endeavor. Some of us only get to go to one or two games a year if lucky. Also the game is on a Monday....people have to work. If I am going to set aside the time and money to go to a Bowl, I want a reasonable chance of seeing the best of what our team has to offer.....

We had a fine season...but didn't have any signature wins...which is OK because we beat South Carolina....

Bowls are important for the players and coaches becasue of the extra practices and recruiting opportunities but to be honest not every game is as sexy and that is a fact.

Had we drawn Missouri, I am fairly certain Watson would play without question and most fans would want to attend such a match up.

If the OP has a problem with people making that "business" decision so be it....

Dec 8, 2014, 1:44 PM

That's not what I meant in my post at all. I just don't like the fans who are saying "I wish dabo would of announced Cole was starting before I bought my tickets" or " I was planning on going until I found out Watson is out and Cole will be playing". For the record, dabo never said Cole would start, it may very well be Schuessler taking first team reps. But regardless, if we are a family at Clemson, lets act like a family and support this team regardless of who starts at QB.

Re: Could Not Have Summed it up Better...

Dec 8, 2014, 1:58 PM [ in reply to Could Not Have Summed it up Better... ]

Well said. What i find humorous about our fan base is that the majority is always clinging to their "moral high ground" (i.e. those who want to support a bad QB no matter what) and the desire to win. And THEN when the wins don't come, they blame the SEC, ESPN, COOTS etc. It gets so OLD.

BTW, Oklahoma is a storied program and not sure why we'd rather play Missouri? Just b/c they are SEC? there's a lot of SEC phallic envy that if we would just do what we are supposed to do (which is win) it would all just cure itself.

And after watching that crap performance we put on during the GT game we are lucky to even go to a bowl game...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't blame Stoudt, I place the problem on the coaches

Dec 8, 2014, 8:10 AM [ in reply to Re: Some of you are a disgrace ]

But that aside, I don't see any upside for Clemson to play in this one. Has nothing to do with Cole per se. An UN-ranked team in a second tier bowl without DW?

If we lose, the other team's recruiters will create a lot of doubt in our recruits minds about the direction of the program.

If we win, it is ho hum.

Just because you don't want to acknowledge the things I am pointing out doesn't make me any more stupid than you. Nor does it make me a coot.

I am not going to pump sunshine when it is not warranted.

I think the coaching by Morris for the past couple of years had hit a ceiling. His recruiting decisions were hit or miss, not consistent. His play calling was the same way. He put us in the QB and O line bind by not making better decisions.

Kudos to Dabo for pushing him out to SMU (yes, I think he had some push from Dabo). I love coach V and Dabo and should Dabo ever go somewhere else (can't imagine why), then I would love Coach V to take over.

And this bowl is terrible. The opponent is terrible. There is no upside for us to play in it at all. Only downside risk. Ugh...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

let me make this perfectly clear so you morons can get it

Dec 8, 2014, 6:35 PM

This bowl nor this opponent are worth playing Deshawn. So that leaves the backup QBs to get the job done. Now, the chances of beating an UN-ranked team are substantially lowered.

If we lose, it really creates problems on the recruiting front. If we win, so what? We beat an UN-ranked, 8-4 team.

The lack of excitement factor will resort in low Clemson turnout.

Yes, we get extra practice, but at what risk/cost. No real upside.

Dec 8, 2014, 2:28 PM [ in reply to Re: Some of you are a disgrace ]

Extremely well said. I don't think any Clemson fan has any ill-will towards Cole. I think some people express it poorly, but let's call a spade a spade: he's not a Division 1 quarterback. He's had a terrible year. Possibly most importantly, I don't think he's with it mentally any more. When I see his body language after mistakes, it looks like he just wants this all to be over and I can't say I blame him.

It's nothing personal against him, but I think it's best to let Dr. Schuess take the snaps for the game against the Sooners. Cole's gone after the year anyway, so let's let the young guy get his stuff together.

the one thing none of you are considering..have you been at one practice, let alone all season? There may be good reason Nick is not ahead of Cole.
If he was your son, how would you feel about the comments? Sure he hasn't performed like we and he hoped. How do you think he feels? And if you are a true "Son of Clemson" like I am, then Cole is at least your brother. I have never and will never boo any young man who puts on a Clemson uniform...

I totally agree with you. We have a better chance of winning with DW, but is that a reason not to attend the bowl game if does not play? So, if some people are not attending or going to watch the bowl game because someone is not playing, is showing disrespect to the entire team and Clemson. As Dabo says, I AM ALL IN. As Coach Howard once said " if you're going to give me 110 percent, you can rub my rock. If not, keep your filthy hands off of it". Now apply this to being a Clemson fan. I agree with much of your post...

I only get to see Clemson play live once every two years and its in Atlanta when we play Tech. The logistics of ticket costs, gas, and lodging are very expensive for my wife and I. This past game, the sh*t show performance that he put up was ridiculous! People pay money to see them win, not a sportsmanship contest. This is Division 1 Collegiate Football, not pop warner...the big stage...If you want to discredit half the fan base and call them a disgrace, then go right ahead, but at the end of the day, no one is paying money to go see Cole Stoudt play QB...

Paying that money to see one of our best defenses in school history, arguably our best Dline in school history and our best defensive end in school history one last time is worth it to me. I want to go to game

Dec 8, 2014, 2:06 PM

but can't b/c of work schedule. I could have gone to the Citrus Bowl. What a shame the playoff committee is a bunch of crock and moves teams around like that for no reason. The Big 10 most have some major influence in that committee. Not only did it include Oh State but that Mich St/Miss St swap (while Miss St moved higher both are in Group of 6 bowls) essentially moved every Big 10 team from Minn on down into a better bowl while moving everyone from Clemson on down in the ACC into a worse bowl.

the move cost the B10 23 mil.. they are waking up wondering

I'm not gonna sit here and say I won't go because of Cole

Stoudt starting, but it absolutely factors into the decision along with location, opponent, and cost.

Bowl Games are a Cost-Benefit Analysis...

Dec 8, 2014, 2:46 PM

Is it worth paying high price for tickets and travel costs to see your team beat a quality opponent in a matchup that only happens rarely?

For the fan willing to lay it on the line for a trip to Orlando the possibility of team success weighs heavily. I support the decision to get DW healthy should he elect for surgery. A 10th win is meaningless this year if we should lose Deshaun forever to a catastrophic injury. The optimistic child who still believes in Santa Claus in me would like to believe that Cole could win this game. However, his track record this season has proved very different. His two biggest stages this year: on the road in ATL and coming in his last home game as a senior for the SCar game, he looked atrocious. Our team lacks any offensive energy and simply look defeated with him on the field. I have all the respect in the world for what he has done for this university, but I do not give us a realistic chance to win the bowl game without offensive consistency. Oklahoma can score... we have to be able to match them. I don't have the money for the bowl game regardless of the scenario, but with Cole playing I am not ashamed to admit I would opt for TV... when the game gets ugly you can always change the channel... I was trapped in ATL this year. I would not allow Stoudt to ruin another road trip for me this season.

Honestly, this is almost exactly how i feel. A trip to

Orlando is pretty much out of my budget right now too, but Watson is the kind of player that can make me say "aw shucks, it's only money" and make the trip down there anyway. Without him though, watching it on TV next to the fire and keeping my ~400 bucks sounds pretty nice.

the same so called fans that say they're not going to the game because of the QB situation and saying the Bowl is worthless and a loss will not be a bad thing are the same fans that will ##### and complain should the Tigers not come out on the positive end of the score

The real disgrace is

Dec 8, 2014, 3:21 PM

that there are a total of 38 bowl games this year. We have a top-25 poll, but a total of 76 FCS teams get to play in a bowl game. Outside of the top six bowls, there are not many matchups that are interesting. There may be 5-6 games that result in a sell-outs, and a majority of schools will end up losing money on their respective games. Just like everything else, the playoff committee and the entire bowl system is nothing but politics and money, and we have ESPN to thank.

I think this is a slap in the face and we should boycot***

True fan here! Cole Stoudt is a sorry piece of a player that plays at qb. He has no talent and Dabo is a fool to play him. That makes our coach an idiot. Will I watch him be stupid again by playing a garbage qb? No !

Re: Those are not fans just band wagon spectators.***

Dec 9, 2014, 4:11 PM

One question for you. How many practices have you been to so you know we have a better option? Like other positions, you have "can't miss players" who never work out. No one knew going into last spring that we would have so many injuries and that Chad K. would turn into such a jerk.
Hope you never have a son that plays a high-profile position like QB. How would you like your type comments if Cole was your son?

But we did actually know the likelihood of those events was high. If not, then someone was being willfully nieve.

Injuries on the line will happen. Kelly was a hand grenade and we all saw it so the coaches should have too.

I'm not buying your weak excuses.
