ESPN Reporting DW Will Miss Bowl...

Dec 10, 2014, 7:24 AM

http://espn.go.com/college-football/bowls14/story/_/id/12007811/clemson-tigers-deshaun-watson-knee-surgery-miss-bowl-game

I am not really surprised. The outcome of this game really is not that important since we aren't going to be a top 10 team and Oklahoma is unranked and 8-4.....This is really just a gloried exhibition game.

Cole will manage a decent game and will throw a he standard 1-2 critical interceptions as he has been fairly consistent at doing.

It will probably be a low scoring game.

I just hope our defenses shines and no one gets hurt.

I would think tickets are going to be very cheap as I have read on various Oklahoma fan board how the aren't very happy how their season finished and many of our fans aren't thrilled about this bowl, our opponent and the fact that DW won't be playing.

Funny, the last time we played the Sooners, their top QB has out and they had to play Holiway whose career was limited by a knee injury that was reliant on 80's medicine and it was a low scoring game.

The game will still be a sellout!!

Mark it down!

Neither fan base is happy about it, but they are both passionate about their Tigers and Sooners!

Game may actually turn out to be a thriller from a performance aspect.

Go Tigers!!!

Let's hope for a nice, clean procedure. Rest up Deshaun, we've got a big year ahead of us next year.

Not sure I'd agree that the outcome of this game

Dec 10, 2014, 7:34 AM

is not that important. Oklahoma, at least in my opinion, will likely be a preseason top 5 team next season. They are loaded with talent, and it would also be a win over one of the top programs in the history of college football. With that said, I can understand why we need to get Watson healthy for summer ball and headed into next fall. I think our defense can keep us in the game, and I'd love to see the coaches get Cole a bunch of short and easy completions to open the game. Get his confidence up and get him in rhythm. OU has the 11th best rushing defense in the nation, so it'll be tough to move it on the ground. Go Tigers!

Again, it's not worth the risk

http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/sportsdoc/Do-I-need-an-ACL-to-play.html

What about braces? Braces simply do not work in preventing injury to other knee structures after ACL injury and this has been proven with a multitude of studies. The risk of playing with an ACL injured knee is severe and permanent damage to the remaining meniscus cartilage and the joint surface cartilage. We can fix the ACL but we don’t do a good job at fixing the joint surface cartilage. Injury to this cartilage means early and progressive arthritis.

While I agree 100% that winning this bowl would be great, I don't think it's worth risking the future of our program.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree with you.

Watson having surgery now is the right call. I just think winning this bowl game would be more significant than some folks realize.

I think that's fair. We're going against an elite program and an elite name. Sure, they didn't have their normal year, but they were projected as a playoff team in the preseason. Winning this game would absolutely be a statement win. We're just going to have to figure out how to do it without Watson.

I'm going to be very interested to see who will be our QB, and what these new co-OCs will do to prove their mettle. A win here, sans DW4, would go a long way in calming the nerves of people who aren't quite sure about the promotions these guys received.

Get well Watson. It wasn't worth you getting hurt again by playing in this crappy bowl. This game won't be a sellout because the smart fans won't waste their money watching Stoudt play a bad pee wee league qb. He is pathetic .

Yea, while Stoudt obviously hasn't worked out, there's no point in beating him down even more. It's not proving a point...it's just showing how bitter that poster is.

There's plenty of reason to watch this bowl game: mainly to see the final act of arguably the best defense Clemson has ever fielded--or at least one of the best. It'd be nice to get one last look at Vic & Grady on the field in orange.

No doubt about it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

if cole can just hold OU to field goals instead of TDs......

Dec 10, 2014, 8:21 AM

we MIGHT have a shot to be in the game in the 4th quarter.

The bowl game is probably not all that important, but I'm pretty sure that Dabo would like to continue the string of 10-win seasons. If we lose that game, the streak ends this year. Now really - we don't want that - do we? :)
