After a couple days to calm down..

Nov 28, 2022, 12:32 PM

And evaluate the season thus far, I have changed my mind on DJ. Until now, for two years, I have said "DJ Sucks". After a calmer evaluation of the situation, I realize that phrase does not do him justice. DJ
actually ROYALlY sucks! He is one of the worst quarterbacks I have ever seen play at a major football school. Non profane words can not do him justice.

but if our receivers catch the three drops he's 11 of 29!!!!

What "if any" blame/ire/dislike/fault do you put on the WR-coach? OC? OL-coach?

What I see more than anything is; WR's who aren't running the type of routes that get open. It makes it appear we hav "zero speed at WR"; but the playcalling could help. The training up of the WR's could help.
Sure DJU over-throws or under-throws sometimes. But, it's more complicated than just him.

How many of those things look much better with a competent qb? But, frankly, everything you listed needs a major overhaul.

The influence of good (or great) WRs on a QB's performance is exemplified by DJU for 2020 (when our WR corp was among the best in our history) vs. 2021 (when our WRs were at their very worst in decades).

DJU hasn't lost skills since coming to Clemson.

DJU looked great when we had great receivers who (1) could get open frequently; (2) ran the correct routes; (3) caught the ball when it was thrown to them; and (4) had adequate pass protection.

DJU looked bad when we had poor receivers who (1) could not get open frequently; (2) ran the wrong routes; (3) dropped the ball when it was thrown to them; and (4) had adequate deficiencies with pass protection.

2020 vs. 2021 showed the greatest contrast.

2022 is somewhere between 2020 and 2021 in that this year's WRs are better than last year (largely due to Antonio Williams) and our pass blocking is much better this year (with the S.Carolina game being not good enough with Marcus Tate being out).

Sure, the WRs arent what they were, but DJ cant hit a quick slant with any regularity. This is on the QB1.

You put too much blame on the receivers. There's been guys wide open all year. DJ just can't get the ball to them for some reason. He either won't see them because he's staring down one guy and panics when he isn't open or he throws pure ducks in the ground or sails it 5-10 yards past them, or throws into double coverage sometimes triple. The receivers aren't the best we ever had no but we don't need amazing receivers to have anything close to a competent pass game. Besides 2020 wasn't close to the best receivers we ever had either. It was Amari, Cornell Powell, Frank Ladson, Ajou Ajou, Ngata, Justyn Ross was out for the year with injury, EJ Williams, and Brannon Spector. More or less the same with what we have now. It's DJ and something with him mentally, it just has to be because there is really no other reason we are this inept in a passing game.

Certainly the worst starter in d 1. And has to be among the worst in our history.
