Deshaun Watson first career touchdown pass (video)

When is the last time one of our QB's threw a pass like this, right down the middle of the field?
I get it (sort of) though,....this pass was a thing of beauty. When I saw this live, I immediately knew we were going to be a top 5 team. Just can't have a QB like that and not get better.

That was an absolute thing of beauty at the time, and since.

There are dudes playing on Sundays that can't make that throw.

I remember Deshaun said "I threw it at his ear hole."

Why be a wanker? Just enjoy DW's awesomeness and be optimistic about DJU. He may actually be the QB that EVERYONE in the country thought he would be.
Either way, don't be a wanker.

Cole Stoudt took the opening drive for a TD, then another TD drive right after this series.
Then, the second half, our wheels feel off on Defense and Special teams. We hardly had any possessions the 2nd half. UGA had the ball the whole time.

I've never seen a team run the ball on a Brent Venables Defense like UGA did that game.
However, the 2014 unit came back and became the #1 Defense in the country that year. They would have not have done that at years end on that D Line....there were a bunch of men that grew up across that line that year.

A lot of fans have forgotten that Dabo sat 2 defensive linemen for that game, coach's decision (due to player transgressions). One was to have been a starter (DE, as I remember); the other was an important backup DL player (DT, I think). In the 2nd half, UGay ran play after play at the location of the DE that was out. It was painful to watch. Dabo made a point w the players that day, but that went a long way toward giving UGay a big advantage.

Great memory!!

Starters Corey Crawford (DE) & David Beasley (OG) were sat along with backups Garry Peters (DB) and Shaq Anthony (OT).
Lesson learned: sometimes taking Peters out is a bad thing.

You know this got me thinking….I wonder if the passing game coordinator or maybe the OC has taken passes over the middle out of the scheme to try and prevent turnovers.
VERY RARELY if any at all have i seen over the middle passes greater than 10yards the last few seasons. It’s definitely something we see a lot of on defense as other ACC team with inferior talent have no problem taking that risk and executing those passes.

It’s maddening to see teams get chunk plays over the middle when we fail to do so.
I remember being terrified when i saw deshaun cut that ball loose . . . And then stunned by the result

and you gotta ask yourself…if these teams are ripping these plays off against a consistent top 10 or even top 5 defense, why are t we attempting them against lesser opponents

Agreed. Pretty clear there was a lack of trust. Passing game was obviously terrible last year so wanting to throttle back and play safe makes sense. Plus with our defense being so stifling, opposing offenses probably have to take more chances to get points on the board. So we end up seeing other teams hit plays over the middle while we don’t try them.

6 of 8 CFP playoffs ever played. 2nd only to Alabama.
Half of every CFP national championship game ever played.
25% of the national championships in the CFP era.
More ranked wins than anyone.
2nd most wins in America since Dabo was hired.
More playoff wins.
Best Clemson coach ever, by far.
3rd longest 10-win streak in all of history, and one of the best runs in college football, ever.
Man, if only we ever threw "over the middle" more ..

Seems like the staff has mentioned that in the past as part of overall game strategies - minimizing opportunities to make costly mistakes in the middle in the passing game so less volume there.

We have become risk adverse with the play calling for sure over the years. I'm okay with it, but do wonder if there are times we are not even trying to make defenses cover the entire field.
