Adapt or become mediocre: transfer portal

Sep 26, 2021, 9:47 AM

The OL has been average or below for this entire 10+ year run. Very few NFL Tigers on OL comparatively to other perennial top tier teams. But good O schemes (that DC have not figured out) and generational QBs along with some amazing RBs hide this weakness.

While Dabo's loyalty (Napier, Stoudt, KB and now DJ and TE) is well documented, he usually fixes it the next year. However, the unwillingness to pursue the transfer portal is another reason they are where they are today. It is clear we have been unable to recruit and develop top tier OL. Every other major program in the country uses it and gains an advantage, it is now time Dabo and Clemson adapt and overcome. Go Tigers.

Clemson is recruiting 4* and 5* OL, they just need to be developed and put in a situation to win.

Posted earlier about Transfer Portal! We have tried 3 left guards(Tate, Tchio, Rayburn) and all of them are just not ready, hopefully they will be in 2022 or 2023. Jordan McFadden is just NOT a Left tackle(6’ 2” and 310lbs). We have no real options at center so Brockhurst is playing out of position. How we have not tried to address this in the Portal the past 2 years is just beyond me. The coaches had to see this coming especially when Jackson declared early. Dabo has got to feel he let this program down by not accepting the changes that are happening in College Football. As a Head Coach or really a $10M a year CEO, you should be spending day and night trying to find every advantage for your team. Not using the Transfer Portal the past few years has let other teams find experienced players they need and are quickly becoming more competitive and in some cases have caught or even passed us by! As in big business the competition is just looking for one little crack and unfortunately I think many teams have found it over the past few years and now they are seeing the dividends and we are feeling the effects!

Retooling using the transfer portal would cost more than we are paying the coaches. College football is all about the $$$ now. NIL makes it all legal and the NCAA can't do anything about it. Just like in the NFL, player payroll requirements will be an order of magnitude higher than coaching payroll. I am just proud we made it to the top back when character mattered. I hope the NFL drops the age requirement and we can get back to just watching athletic engineering majors with 1200 SAT scores play football.
