Maybe the ACC needs to cut a deal with NBC which will bring ND into the conference. The basketball side would be quite lucrative and the football side with ND becomes a game changer

Not a bad idea.

Don’t know if the existing ESPN contract will permit it. If so, why isn’t the ACC working this idea?

The current ESPN contract does not permit it.

Because ND does not want to join. With all due respect, this is commonly known.

I’m not even sure a ND could save the ACC vs B1G and SEC money. Would definitely be a step in the right direction.

Make ND crap of get off the pot...they will have trouble getting in bed with anyone else! We should beat them soundly but need to pay attention to everyone else!

Aren't all ACC schools making more than that annual

Oct 30, 2022, 1:36 PM

payout in the new deal already? Just on the media rights side? They're splitting the new amount 12 ways when it kicks in two years from now, so that's their 3-8 year out number.

No, it's not. If other conferences go to 16-team model,

Oct 30, 2022, 1:40 PM

then so will the ACC. At that point TV deals will be renegotiated.

Still gonna be a LAME conference without UT/OU.

Swofford and CRAP football teams have killed the ACC…who wants to watch

Oct 30, 2022, 2:35 PM

Virginia, GT, Miami, VT, BC, Duke, Wake etc…..continue to play bad football….and get killed in OC games…..the ACC is dead, and everyone is just waiting for someone else to make a move

My first question would be is the ACC football rights worth more than the big 12? Did I read correctly that it includes some Bball. $31 mill seems pretty good for a school like UCF. But falls short of the 45 to 50 mill I think sec and the big 10 get.

Also does it even matter when they expand the playoffs? Every good team will get in anyway. Which I'm against.

Just look at the SEC. They're spending all this $ and for what?

The secret is most teams can only win 7 games. Because they play each other. 3 wins come from cupcakes every year.

Remember, though, that the ACC deal is not static. I recall reading some months ago that Clemson will likely be paid $60 million in 2029. Whether that number is right or wrong, under the current deal the ACC payouts per team in upcoming years are going up from where they are now. Won't match the B1G or the SEC, but I don't think they will double Clemson.

Re: ACC...is it checkmate, now?

Oct 30, 2022, 8:37 PM

Not sure where you heard that. The deal is static. Same amount every year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Our payouts will be $50 million a year less than SEC

Oct 30, 2022, 9:49 PM [ in reply to Re: ACC...is it checkmate, now? ]

if nothing changes. We cannot overcome those numbers thru IPTAY.

The Big 12 folks are living in a fantasy world. 380 million per year divided by 12 teams will be 31.6 million per team. They are fantasizing a total of 50 or 60 each would come with the addition of new playoff money. They are full of it IMO.

Re: ACC...is it checkmate, now?

Oct 30, 2022, 9:16 PM

They are not fantasizing at all. There are a lot of revenues in addition to the TV contract. Look at the current numbers to see…
