ACC just not cutting it-$. A perfect fit if

May 13, 2022, 5:56 PM

the opportunity presents itself would be the SEC. Close trips, border rivals, and stadiums filled with passionate fans. And we could get back to one the best rivalries in the country and play every year- the Savannah River clash between the Tigers and UGaG! Go Tigers!!!

invite to join the SEC. The SEC would have to use some strong-arm tactics on one of their own "junior" members to get the Coots vote to extend an invite.

LOL! IF aTm was told to like it or leave regarding Texas joining how quickly do you think it would take little brother Coots to be told the same thing?

I would have liked for Clemson to have been in the SEC before the NIL, but with the NIL we would be in a bad situation playing teams from the SEC with big NIL offers for the best recruits in the country...

It is in my opinion that the NIL under the rules that it operates by right now, we wouldn't be any better than the coots in the SEC!!!

It's likely the NIL money would be higher with higher tv ratings. The SEC championship game had 15m viewers last year vs 2.6 for the ACC.

Hard to justify large sponsorships without eyeballs.

Up to this point the sponsors for TV have not been involved

in NIL. Been a little bit of local business and a lotta bit of rogue boosters. The rogue boosters are technically in violation of existing rules and if nothing else there is a known need to fix it. Regardless, the NIL will not be controlled by TV money.

Would way prefer to be in the SEC.

ACC stigmatized and negative recruited against.

If we had twice the money we have now

May 14, 2022, 12:43 AM

How would that make us better?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Lots of ways

May 14, 2022, 6:34 AM

You have twice the operating budget, twice the market budget, twice the new construction budget, twice the coaches salary budget ……

We are not lacking any of those funds though.***

than us. What has it done for them?

Money is nice. We'd gladly take it, but we have more than enough money to succeed. It's not holding us back in anything.

I was in favor of leaving the ACC after that disreputable

additional year's probation levied against us in the 80's.

We should have been a member of the SEC for over 30 years, and I say that without maligning current members of the ACC except for perhaps two programs.

The whole conference landscape may change in a few years. Something has to give if the Big 12, ACC and PAC 12 are going to compete against the SEC and Big Ten.

ain't happening... that boat sailed off a long time ago.....

May 14, 2022, 4:16 PM

and it's really hard to "blame someone". No one could foresee the dramatic changes in the college football world... the influence that ESPN and TV contracts would have on conference money. Along with conference realignments. And I've always loved being in the ACC. Playing the longstanding regional rivals that are close by. Heck, I even hated it when MD left the ACC... I guess because I'm old enough to remember going into Cole Field House and playing a Lefty Driesell team that was typically Top 10. And their football teams were good a lot of times, too.

But another reason I liked the ACC was because it was always one of the better "academic conferences". Like em or not, and you shouldn't because of the sports rivalries over the decades... but Duke, UNC, UVA, etc, are top schools. And CU, GaT, VaT are no slouches, either. I'll never forget a phrase that I read in a Sports Illustrated article many years ago, when the SEC was mired in yet another flurry of recruiting scandals... the writer called the SEC schools "lowbrow football factories".

Anyway, yes, in hindsight... it's easy to say now we should've tried to join the SEC at some point. But who knew?
