About the new staff

|
|
Several things
1) It appears to me at least Dabo has arrangements with BV and TE about who could be taken and who would not. We retain Bates, our best recruiter, and Reed. Thought either of those might follow TE to be DC there, but both staying put. BV wanted Goodwin but got Roof because Goodwin was Dabo's next guy. Chavis followed him as a few off field guys followed Chad. I expect the same with TE at UVa. These are promotions for all these guys.
I think this shows the level of respect this staff had developed, the bond, and also the desire to see guys advance without raiding the cubbard. A really upright way of doing things. See Lincoln Riley for the opposite.
2) Steeter was obvious and he and Richardsin working together I think are going to be excellent. We'll maintain the same philosophy but these guys will imprint there own style. Was a little surprised to learn Brandon had turned down several SEC-OC jobs and that Richardson also had turned down jobs. They did that to coach here under Dabo. That's culture my friends. Dabo will take care of you and you will advance.
3) Goodwin is the rising star. Dabo and Brent both knew it, but Dabo retains him. He'll make the calls, Conn will be on the field as the signal man. I expect little change in our formula. We'll get the calls in late to best line up against the opposing O and maybe even be more aggressive. Goodwin has already been in the booth for BV. He was personally trained by BV.
4) I'll be interested in how the off field staff is adjusted. These are positions Dabo is really using for development. Who fills Goodwins role (DMac?), Richardson's role (Boyd?). Who TE takes with him. Who the former head coach coming in is (I say Adazzio).
I know many are questioning things, but this is what it looks like when a guy with a Vision has a plan. This is his vision playing out. I personally think it's the right way to do things. It's questioned as it's in stark contrast to most everyone else. Development at all levels, targeting HS coaches, former players you've identified things in, former head coaches (Brad, Terry Bowden), complete unknowns (Goodwin, and watch out for Andrew Zow).

not impressed by Mickey Conn though Mike Reed would have been better choice or maybe Dabo is trying to get rid of Conn.

Conn is a former HS head coach with vast experience signaling in plays and game planning. Reed has never done this other than as a staff member. Reed got bumped to ST coordinator. Be interested to see what he does with that. I'm glad we retained Reed

Ayrton Senna would disagree.
I mean all F1 folks tended to start off karting... and current drivers continue carting.

Great read Striper. I’m pleased with all of them. I love that he is developing coaches and have them ready. I am curious to hear the guys coming in to replace Richardson and Goodwin!

by either BV or TE. What I'm saying is Dabo, with these two he is extraordinarily close to, had this worked out. Guys advance from his complete staff including off field and he maintains continuity here. Mutual respect, sadly a foreign concept to many

Interesting note you had on the end about Andrew Zow. Had no idea the former Alabama QB was on staff.

I'm excited for these moves. I think maybe Losman goes with Elliott as QB Coach. I know everyone hopes Cutcliffe comes in as an analyst, but Addazio or Chad Lundsford, the former ga southern coach could also be great additions. I'm excited for the analyst announcements.

Good Post StriperFan. I understand some peoples concerns but I believe Dabo has built this program on a solid foundation. He will continue to prevail. We all just need a little patience. GO TIGERS

Money is one. Delegating responsibilities another. The title with Dabo though gives actual responsibility and continues development

Dabo said in the presser yesterday that he expects Goodwin to be on the field making the calls with Conn up in the box. He did say, however, that they were still working through how everything will work...

Looks like he was on the field a lot anyway from som pics I've seen.
Also said Streeter likely to be in box after the bowl game. Richardson out for the bowl

Can these new coaches recruit?
Dec 15, 2021, 10:30 AM
|
|
That is the way this program was developed and if they aren’t strong to elite recruiters, it doesn’t bode well.
I’m still gonna hold off on any evaluation until we see the results on the field but am sure these guys are quality coaches. The downside is there is no one from outside the program to bring a different set of eyes to either side.
All we can do is hope for the best and support the program. Time will certainly be the litmus test on these hires as they always are.
