65 million dollars!? LITTLE JOHN!? WHAT!?

Feb 18, 2016, 7:49 PM

Did anyone see the 3d animation of how Little John Would look after it was finished on the game the other night?

Did you really look at it?

They said, "this is how little john is going to look, we give you an exclusive look inside.

Well guess what?

NOTHING CHANGED!!!!

I expected after 65 million dollars, they would have hot tubs on the sidelines and crystal seats with heat warmers for the ladies but..............NA NNA NA NOOO!! NOTHING!?

They had a few tables set up AND THEY TOOK SEATS OUT! NOTHING CHANGED!

SO WHERE IN THE HECK DID THE 65 MILLION DOLLARS GO!?!?!?

Most is the parts you don't see from the court

Feb 18, 2016, 7:51 PM

There should be the same quality of facilities that the Football and baseball teams have. New locker rooms, meeting rooms, practice courts, eating facilities, lounges, etc. The main difference in the arena are the box seats, from what I remember

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

^^^ This ^^^ ... The improvements are mainly for

Feb 18, 2016, 9:27 PM

The improvements are mainly for players, coaches and ... recruits.

I expect that the game experience for the fans will also be better, but that was not the area where Clemson has suffered all these many years.

Littlejohn has always been a pretty good place to watch a basketball game.

Under the surface, the critical elements necessary to a successful hoops program have been abysmal to say the least.

the court will be turned 90 degrees also. it will be entirely different

Re: 65 million dollars!? LITTLE JOHN!? WHAT!?

Feb 18, 2016, 7:55 PM

it is the annex, locker rooms, practice courts, etc that got all the budget. Very little is being done inside the arena itself.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh. Thanks Guys.

Feb 18, 2016, 7:59 PM

They still could of made the court shiny or polished it or something

Not sure that is accurate. I mean, they did gut the place.

Lots is being done in the arena itself

Feb 19, 2016, 10:43 AM [ in reply to Re: 65 million dollars!? LITTLE JOHN!? WHAT!? ]

The court is being turned 90 degrees, the student section will be on the sideline where it belongs instead of just on the baselines, capacity is being reduced to create a more intimate atmosphere, luxury suites are being added, etc.

Essentially, the only things that are staying the same are the roof and exterior walls.

Feb 18, 2016, 8:04 PM

Are you spelling Littlejohn wrong on purpose?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don't know what you're expecting, but 65 million

Feb 18, 2016, 8:12 PM

isn't much when you're talking about a project that size. This isn't going to be much more of a boost than the last time Littlejohn was renovated, and in ten years it'll need it again.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yep 65 million is only 300,000 a month payment for 20

Feb 19, 2016, 10:10 AM

years or so, easy to pay for when you roll like the Tigers

I told you that over a year ago when I saw the downscaled

Feb 18, 2016, 9:13 PM

plans. That's not news at all. File it in the category of "whatever" or "Boondoggle". Unreal that they blew $65 million on that. Have you not looked at the rendering on the 'net before seeing it last night?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I told you that over a year ago when I saw the downscaled

Feb 19, 2016, 10:26 AM

I'm guessing you never got to see the practice court and locker room area huh?

You know, the things players use the most? The things you want to have state of the art so that better recruits will come play here?

Feb 19, 2016, 10:35 AM [ in reply to I told you that over a year ago when I saw the downscaled ]

You have no clue what you are talking about. The player facility improvements were not gimped on.

They cut back on a lot of the exterior changes and some of the interior changes that fans see.

You arent even a Clemson fan though so who cares what you think.

Mr. "I wouldnt care if Clemson ceased to exist".

To be honest with you........

Feb 18, 2016, 9:38 PM

I've always been a positive supporter of just about anything Clemson Athletics has done..... I'm sure many of you would label me a "sunshine pumper". But to tell the truth I've sat there in G-Ville multiple games this year thinking that he crowd we had would spill over Perimeter Road in the new "John". i've seen many years when we filled up the old LJ for ACC and Scar games as well as a few others. All we needed was a consistently competitive program. I'm pretty sick to think that our AD has spent 65 mil and we're going to have 2000 less seats. I think it's the biggest strategic Clemson athletic mistake I've seen in a while (not bigger than secretly deemphasizing football for twenty years)

Re: To be honest with you........

Feb 19, 2016, 8:54 AM

Great...then make your voice heard.Write to the genius AD and tell him what you think of his white elephant.I wrote a STRONG letter and got a cupcake, sunshine pumping response.IMO the thing is a total joke.

Wait until you see those! :D

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah it didn't seem like its changed at all

Feb 19, 2016, 9:25 AM

But im not the one making those decisions and if they felt like it needed to be done then i guess ill be ok with it. I know we will start playing in the new arena next basketball season but does anyone know when it will be done? And where are the graduation ceremonies going to be held since its usually in littlejohn?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: 65 million dollars!? LITTLE JOHN!? WHAT!?

Feb 19, 2016, 10:11 AM

Only thing I didnt like about it is that they sold us on one thing and are building another.

I know the player facilities will be great but the original concept for the inside was vastly different than what is is now.

They were also going to upgrade a lot of the outside appearance of the building but that too was scrapped.

Went from

to

and from

Re: 65 million dollars!? LITTLE JOHN!? WHAT!?

Feb 19, 2016, 1:15 PM

IMO, the total redo of LJ wasn't necessary. It needed some upgrades, but the facility desperately needed was a state of the art practice facility with offices, weight room, meeting rooms and a very enticing player lounge with similar amenities to that of the football program. As long as the game day arena is decent, don't think it's much of a factor with the players and recruits.

Umm that is what most of the budget is going towards.

Re: 65 million dollars!? LITTLE JOHN!? WHAT!?

Feb 19, 2016, 1:37 PM

Yeah, and we are going from a seating capacity of 10,000 to 8,500. Where does that put us with the rest of the ACC on this? We will have one of the smallest colleseums in the league!!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: 65 million dollars!? LITTLE JOHN!? WHAT!?

Feb 19, 2016, 1:47 PM

I think we should have stayed around 10k but we DEFINITELY didn't need to go bigger.

Here are the other capacities in the league...

BC 8606
Duke 9314
FSU 12100
GT 8600
UL 22090
Miami 7972
UNC 21750
NC St 19557
ND 9149
Pitt 12508
Syracuse 33000
UVA 14593
VT 9847
WF 14665

6 of the 14 teams are sub 10k capacity.

We will make it 7 of 15.
