I just made up that number for mortgage applications, but wouldn't be surprised.
Google didn't return any quick results for lying about race on mortgage applications. It kept returning mortgage denials by race (which is a topic I'm not going to dig into)

After reading your OP again. I have concluded that those that stated “native” probably think they are because of that sticker they have on their back car window.
And the rest just answered by what race they identify as.

How ironic are the outcomes of social engineering.
(1..) Modern-day social 'scientists' ... gnashing their teeth at not being part of the original and virtuous 'equal opportunity for blacks' with respect to historically white colleges and universities ... attempt to virtue signal by giving special admission considerations for blacks (based on race instead of MLK's urgings that everything for everyone be based on merit).
(2..) These same modern-day 'social scientists' ... completely off their meds and following the (political) science ... push for all people to be accepted by whichever or whatever demographic that suits them.
RESULT: The white kids 'identify' with being some 'race' other than white so to cash in on the less stringent admission standards which are offered to the non-white (and to the non-Asian) minorities.
AXIOM: For each stupid social engineering action, there is an even more stupid socially engineered outcome.

We need smart kids to go to college and major in fields which the USA economy needs.
It's outrageous that the corrupt colleges and universities have sold their sole for (politically correct) 'minority rights' that randomly decide to consciously discriminate against certain 'non-politically relevant' minorities in their admissions criteria.
Too many of our political leaders and too much of the media perpetuates this nonsense. Shameful.
