It would not be OP's fault. BLame the admin that did not feel like they needed to support him. National exposure in a good light, Little John packed and crazy, College Gameday, NCAA appearance although we bowed out early and 20 win seasons back to back to back. Hmmmmmm!!! Who's fault again?
Three years into his contract and he this coach matched OP's first season at Clemson in win total......really.

A private school that is considerably smaller than Clemson, has no real basketball tradition, and the worst, most lukewarm fan base in the ACC.
No more excuses or silly talk about why Clemson can never be good in basketball.
