2021 Fan Day is going to cost your kids a fortune

Jul 2, 2021, 7:29 AM

Welcome to Clemson Fan Day 2021!
... where each autograph will cost your child $20, $50, or $100.

But seriously, I have so many questions on this. Can the students now hire agents to manage their contracts? Can Uncle Sam now tax their scholarships? Speaking of taxes, can these players still claim themselves as a dependent of their parents? Can a player charge their school for NIL type events and advertisements (ie . Posters, images on tickets, commercials, etc.)? Does Reggie Bush get his Heisman back? Can a player that was ruled ineligible because of NIL activities from years past gain another year of eligibility back? Does this now allow high schoolers to take part as the deterrent was always the NCAA? Can colleges now offer NIL "packages" when recruiting players from high school or even trying to recruit a current player away from another school via transfer portal?

I can't wait to see what impact this has on individual players in the long run. Does it distract players so much that many begin having issues off the field such as academic issues? Or, do individual players begin caring deeply for their image so they take individual responsibility to heart and perform on and off the field?

Crazy times ahead!

From Clemson's NIL policy:

-NIL activity may not take place during the intercollegiate athlete’s participation in academic, athletic, or team-mandated activities.

To me that means if Dabo says to be there representing the team you're not getting paid; so, no little Johnny ain't dropping a Benjamin on ajou ajou's autograph.
Here's a couple more interesting questions:
1. Would Ajou Ajou be able to charge double for his autograph
2. When you make it possessive is it Ajou Ajou's, or is like how you pluralize chiefs of staff and it's Ajou's Ajou?

Gaurantee you its going to be a distraction for the players

all teenagers are consumed with social media as it is. Now we've monetized the amount of time you devote to it. Whats going to come first in the mind of a teenager, your film study with your position coach for the Duke game or making a couple hundred bucks interacting with customers on snapchat for a sponser? School will be a distant 3rd.

I wish there was a way to mandate that any NIL money made would only be eligible for collection after their graduation/degree was achieved. With the current "free for all" rules now I think you'll start see more and more of a rush to get out of college once these superstars have achieved some level of stardom.

"Can colleges now offer NIL "packages" when recruiting players from high school or even trying to recruit a current player away from another school via transfer portal?"

That's the one that worries me. $$$$$

There is a clear separation between TEAM events and personal appearances. Keep up please. Your outrage is unwarranted.

Triggered much?

No one was outraged. He asked a serious question. And in case you weren’t paying attention, which obviously you were not, he was being sarcastic at the beginning.

The irony is on you. You think you’re being funny or cute or snarky or putting someone in their place when you’re making yourself look like the the jack-azz!
