What are the odds Kelly Bryant doesn't play against GT?

Oct 16, 2017, 12:43 PM

I think they are greater than 50%.

What are the odds KB is not 100% if he does play or gets re-injured and misses time going forward(odds that he's not as productive a runner)? 50%?

he should not have played against cuse. Imo we win that game with either other qb playing. he was in a good bit of pain and limping around. could not run, move or even defend himself.

2 separate injuries to be confirm healed

Oct 16, 2017, 12:56 PM

It's one thing to fix the ankle which if it did not sustain more damage should be good by Ga Tech. The other: Is he ready from the concussion.

These 2 weeks also give the opportunity to Cooper and Johnson to step up their game even more as they should feel the pressure and likelihood of one or both of them playing.

Bryant's ankle was obviously a problem for him in the game and the coaches risked it and changed the game plan to more pass. This may have played right into the Cuse defense. I ain't no coach, but would rather have him well for NCST which is THE critical game to get to the ACC Champ game, not Ga Tech.

all 3 remaining ACC games are CRITICAL to get to ACCCG......

Oct 16, 2017, 1:00 PM

lose any of them and we're done.

our "mulligan" is gone.

Two losses will put us out off ACC race.

We were at the game 90 minutes before kickoff. It was obvious during warmups that KB could not cut. He could barely run along the sidelines without limping. He should have never played. Our D was never set. The HUNH Cuse O kept them off balance all night. Both of these situations are the result of POOR COACHING, SOMETHING we have not seen in many games.

The question you need to ask is "What are the odds our coaches can get someone else ready to play against GT?" I am thinking it's about 35%?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd say zero.

Oct 16, 2017, 1:00 PM

I bit of a sprain and concussion will be long gone before the 8pm kickoff if there are no mishaps in practice.

Normally I'd agree, but I'd also have said that there were

Oct 16, 2017, 1:01 PM

zero odds that our kicker would have a season ending injury from contact in practice, so I'm throwing logic out the window.

Odds could never be zero. Do you think he'll be taking

Oct 16, 2017, 1:09 PM [ in reply to I'd say zero. ]

all of the first team reps this week and next?

Personally, I think he is limited if he can go at all. Hopefully, our coaches are better prepared for the possibility/likelihood this time around.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, I don't believe he will be taking all the 1st team reps.

Oct 16, 2017, 1:23 PM

He's going to have to heal. That should give the backups some reps with the first team and I believe that is something that will make us all feel better.

I believe when it's time to go he will be the goto guy. Don't get me wrong on this Chuck, I want the best man behind center when our offense takes the field. I want KB to be more than healthy enough to get the job done with the least amount of risk to him.

If someone overtakes him during this extended time of practice I hope they get the start. I love all our guys but the team comes first.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't see anybody beating a healthy KB out. But, if he

Oct 16, 2017, 1:34 PM

isn't 100% on the ankle and he can't run and avoid pressure, we aren't going to be able to score enough to win. I don't see him playing against GT because of the concussion at the least and possibly due to a lingering gimpy ankle. If he can't go, then our coaches need a better prepared backup QB and a better plan than they had against Syracuse. I'm not so sure that QB is ZC. He may be better at this point in the running game than HJ, but I don't see him better in the decision making and passing aspects of the game than HJ. If KB isn't 100% were aren't nearly as effective in the running game and teams are going to load the box and come after us. Our offensive line isn't good enough to run the ball in that situation. Unless HJ can back them off with a quick passing game.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It seem to take a while to wear a defensive line down...

Oct 16, 2017, 1:55 PM

enough to successfully run the ball up the middle. Until that point in the game we need a running QB to get us by. If our passing game becomes proficient we can reach the same ends.

You always have to run up the middle to keep a defense honest. When we get only short gains from pounding the middle our QBs and receivers have little room for error. I'm thinking of Deon's dropped passes here.

A pure passing QB could become a functional offense under those conditions but imo, that is a roll of the dice. We need a QB running to lessen the pressure on our passing game. I'm not excusing dropped passes, missed throws or poor route running. I just don't like rolling the dice.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are assuming HJ can't run. I'm not. He has great feet

Oct 16, 2017, 2:08 PM

and good speed. My point was simply that the coaches MAY think ZC is bigger and can take some shots and that may be the advantage they feel he has. I'm not convinced the result would a less effective QB run. ZC seems really nervous and doesn't seem to be making quick decisions. It's not a risk or a roll of the dice to play HJ. ZC hasn't shown any separation that would suggest there will be any dropoff if HJ plays.

Teams are going to stack the box and get after us if we can't throw and catch effectively. What we saw from ZC Friday night will not win us many games. If KB can't play, there is no reason to think that ZC is so much better than HJ at anything from what we've seen on gamedays to justify not giving him a chance to show he can move the team and score.

I would add that, given how teams prepare for KB, it would be a nice change up if HJ could come in and spread them out more because he can read defenses, make quick decisions and deliver the ball accurately and on time. That's what our running game really needs.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well...he played Friday...

Oct 16, 2017, 1:08 PM

when it was clear to the entire free world, including the Syracuse defense, that he should not have been playing.

It was apparent almost from the start of the game that he could not run.

Yep. If we don't develop our passing game, people are going

Oct 16, 2017, 1:18 PM

to shut down our running game by stacking the box with a limited KB. He has almost the same number of rushing attempts as Etienne and Feaster combined. He has 101 rushing attempt including the Syracuse game where he only ran 4 times and is averaging 18 runs per game over the previous 5 games. Choice is next with 66 attempts. If we continue down that path, he's going to get beat up and miss more time.

Investing all or most of the first team reps in KB was a

mistake in hindsight last week. It will be interesting to see how they manage that over the next two weeks. Hopefully, HJ gets an equal number to ZC. We are going to have to be a better passing team going forward if no or limited KB.

Oct 16, 2017, 1:52 PM

KB likely getting zero reps this week and the possibility of him not playing against GT, I think they take a different approach. They realize that ZC looks nervous and hasn't shown us much at all in his opportunities. I think they'll put HJ in by the 3rd series if KB can't play.
