Has anyone actually been on the UofSC campus before?

Like the horseshoe area etc. Not talking about the athletic facilities and surrounding Columbia.
Gotta say, not so bad on a spring day.

I've lived in the Cayce/Lexington area my whole life, and I'm not sure if I've ever been on their campus. It's so spread out in downtown Columbia that you're never sure if you're on campus or not. I sure am glad I decided to go to Clemson in 1980. Other than getting married, it's the best decision of my life.

This^^! I am from Columbia and would go down to see friends and always wonder if we were on campus or not. Not a real good college experience.

I once stayed in the dorms there at 17 yrs when American Legion Boy's State picked me to represent Chester. It was pure crap. No offense to others there, but I also don't care for Columbia. I lived half way between there and Charlotte, and my crowd always travel to Charlotte as it was more fun.

I left Chester at 18 and have not lived there since. In the day it was the perfect small town, I was blessed. It aint that now.
I know Tega Cay well, Bride and I looked it over when it first came on the market, but too $$ for us then. It is a fun area.
I have lived near Clemson for the last 21 years.

Good ole Chester. I was also born and raised in Chester, SC. Graduated at 17, joined the Army and never looked back to that #### hole.
Retired military at 38 and settled in Mooresville, NC. Close enough to family, but not too close.

And they treated us like we were in the military. The dorms did not have AC and we were there in the summer, we put wet towels in front of fans to help cool the room so we could sleep. But it was a great experience.

I took an AP stats sertification class there one summer. Its the only time ever my car was broken in to. They took some change, a hat, and broke a support bar on my jeep top just because they could. Horrible neighborhood.

Parts of the campus are super nice but the transitions from nice campus to no-go areas are abrupt

Especially in the summer. Like Holtz said when he started coaching there that this place is so hot it must be located directly over ####.

days. If you think Johnstone was bad, you ain't seen nothing compared to that. Their beds (at the time) were literally a wooden box on a wood frame with an old down mattress in it. It was NOT comfortable at all. (The one in the bed I slept in was so old and decrepit, it had a small hole in it, and every time you moved, it would blow feathers out of the hole. Appropo for a bunch of chikins, I suppose.)
Clemson had them beat all to heyall on meal plans back then, as well, as I found out that weekend. A seven day meal ticket at Clemson was just that. All you can eat, whenever you wanted, for seven days a week. At Cooterville, you had a cheezy coupon book, and each thing you got cost you some number of coupons.
The Clemson meal plan was the main reason that the "freshman fifteen" weight gain was NOT a joke, but reel close to reality.

the years. It's got its goods and bads - ever comparing it to Clemson is a non-starter as you well know.
The area bounded by Senate, Gregg, Blossom and Sumter Streets is the older more cohesive area. It's nice. Always something in bloom and lots of great growth around. The Capstone Building is maybe my favorite though, the 60's round top. It's a nice starting point for a trot about as usually plenty of parking.
