15 - that number more than anything is hurting us.

Nov 16, 2021, 8:10 PM

I do not understand why Dabo only wants 15 OL. The most important, hardest to judge, most likely to not pan out position group barely has a 3-deep at CU. These mediocre SEC teams continually beat the upper third of other conferences because they understand that the Line of Scrimmage both on defense and offense is the most important area on the field. Win it or even just hold it and average RB, QB, and WR can look good on offense while DB, LB, and Safety can look good on defense. Thank the Good Lord BV knows it and keeps restocking and developing our DLinemen otherwise we’d be 2-8 this year.

It needs to be 20, like you mentioned OL is the hardest to evaluate of any position and we need more room to either “hit” or find scholarship diamonds on the rough (take a 3 star) instead of all the walk ons we have on scholarship.

Walk-ons get the leftovers that opened up at the last moment. Unless they are "preferred walk-ons".

Right on ClemsonTigers44.

We keep gambling that 15 O-Linemen is the right number, when it is apparent that we got very lucky to have very few O-Line injuries from 2015 through 2020.

Eventually, the statistics even out, and our "15 O-Linemen is plenty" philosophy did not work this year.

Even if Dabo won't go all the way to 20 O-Linemen (and of course we all recognize that he is ... by far ... the greatest FB coach in Clemson history and already one of the top 5 in the country), I hope that he'll expand the O-Line room to 16 or 17 players. One or two additional bodies at a position that naturally has lots of injuries / attrition can really help.

You get your wish.

Clemson will have 16 OL on scholarship next season.

That is unless another one of them quits because he thinks being a decent player and being on 2nd or 3rd string as a young player is beneath him.

younger coach to identify with players. Eric McClain would be that man, he has the inspirational personality that can really help make a good coach. He is an outstanding analyst, a rising star in that world, however an assistant coach at Clemson makes a lot more money

Seems like a Dlineman moves over to the online every few and never the other way around. Might be those extra scholarships go there and to the LBs where a guy every 2/3 years gets bumped down to a DE. Those scholarships aren't at DB or QB, how is our RB and WR depth looking this year? What else? Should we go back to the days of not offering punters? Drop a kicker? I get we had some portal adjustments to make, which we are doing. In an "average" year where would you advise us to "manufacture" these extra Oline scholarships from?

^^^ This ^^^

Name me a position other than LB, where we have 2 super seniors, who hasn't needed an extra scholarship or two this season because of injuries.

So who would you cut? Every RB we have has been hurt so what if they were cut? Every WR we have has been hurt so what if they were cut? Defensive linemen have been hurt so what if they were cut? Get the picture? Second guessing is a wasted effort.

stop filling scholarships with 5 heart kids and coaches kids and save those for real players. when you gotta fill with walk ons ok but rescind those schollies and give them to real depth players. No swinney should EVER be on scholly

Bet you wouldn't say that to Dabo's face. You should be thanking Dabo that his kids are the team. That stuff is what has kept him in Clemson. Your lucky to have him. Period.

Stop crying about how Dabo runs his 2x National Championship winning program.

The only Swinney on scholarship is a super senior and doesn't count against the 85 scholarship limit for this season.

He is literally on scholarship because Clemson's athletic department decided all kids willing to come back for a "super senior" season would get a scholarship.
