Would NC Governor, Roy Cooper, be a viable presidential

candidate in 2024 if he decides to run? I'm kind of just thinking out loud of moderate Dems who I could vote for over Harris if Biden doesn't run.
Mayor Pete and Michael Bennet also come to mind.

There’s nothing about him that screams “leader”. Not sure what he would point to as a major accomplishment?

His leadership during COVID was unremarkable when it wasn't haphazard. To his credit, he got us moving on vaccinations, but that is going to be lost in the details. He'd be preferable to the progressive wing, but I see him struggling through the primaries.
I'm big on Pete. If he was the Dem nominee, I would be very happy. But he also has some national appeal issues.
Unfortunately, and I hate this, you almost need a schtick to win the primary. That's never good.

#1. Non-reactionary.

He's not like other progressive reactionaries that run on nothing but emotional discharge and catchphrases. I think he'll be much more open minded than other Dems to working on compromise legislation that moves the ball forward for America, even if both sides have to give something up. He's more Romney, than AOC.
#2. He's a smart dude. This plays heavily into #1 as well. But, brains are a rarity in DC, and he's got them.
#3. He's a good Christian man. Normally I'd say one's faith is a non-issue for me (and, to the literal degree, it is), but after the moral decay of the Trump admin, it would be refreshing to have some midwestern family values in the White House.
Now, I have no illusions about him being a liberal and with any Democrat in the White House we shouldn't expect pro-capitalism, pro-gun policies -- but as for what we might get with other Democrats? It's why it's a good thing to hope the other party sends their best and brightest. If they send their worst, there's a decent chance you may get stuck with them.

Never said that. I objected to your description of Pete as having Christian and midwestern family values. I read read some of your posts on another thread. You were brilliant in your explanation of the gospel of salvation. I was very impressed. You know the scriptures , there’s no doubt. I’m not a Bible scholar but I have a pretty good knowledge of scripture as well. So, the issue we are talking about is not debatable and not defendable from scripture. The Bible is clear about sin and what sin is. We are all sinners. Some of us saved by grace. However, nowhere in scripture are we allowed to justify our sin.

Does he believe in the Gospel? Yes. He's a Christian.

Being gay does not change that.
As for family values? He's a committed father, devoted husband, and by all accounts a good person.
The only problem you seem to have is with his sexuality, which again, is immaterial to any of the above.

I’m not having a problem with his sexuality. I’m having a problem with you as a professing Christian being unwilling to acknowledge it as sin. If you tell me you like Pete because of his policies then fine. But you have no biblical authority to call his sin behavior “family values” and “good husband”. Before you start on me me I can say that without hating the sinner. We all sin. Using the Bible to excuse sin is dangerous ground.

How is being a good husband, and a good father, not

family values? How is him being gay any different than a man who occasionally swears, drinks, has a pornography addiction, uses the Lord's name in vain, secretly has impure thoughts about his neighbor's wife. You said it yourself -- we are all sinners. Do you not consider yourself to be a good person, with good values? What is it that makes being gay so special that suddenly and otherwise church-going, good man, is not projecting "good family values"?

with Evangelicals right now. Here we have Pete -- a man genuine in his faith -- who we question his beliefs because he's gay, but when it comes to Trump, who by words and actions is an unreligious man, and it is radio silence when he pimps out the Bible as a political prop.
These pastors and evangelical leaders who turned their pulpit into a stump box for Trump, are going to have some uncomfortable conversations at the Pearly Gates. They turned Trump into the idol, and sold-out their faith in his name.

Stop making this about Trump. I’ve never defended Trumps character or personality. The subject we are discussing has nothing to do with Trump. We are discussing a subject that is simply not debatable according to the teaching of Jesus. You disagree? Then here’s what I ask you to do. Show me one example in scripture where Jesus offered grace and forgiveness and then instructed the person to go live the lifestyle he so chooses. You can’t do it it’s not there.

Get real. The D's HAVE to give the nomination to Kamala. The first next in line Female, Black, VP, she HAS to be the nominee. She might lose, but they have to give her a shot to win it. And if Trump runs, sadly she actually could win it.
I still think they'll take Biden out before his term is over so she'll be the incumbent running in 2024. It wouldn't take much to claim he's mentally unfit to continue over the next three years. You can barely understand what he's trying to say when he reads a paragraph now.
