#1 defense in the country.

Sep 19, 2021, 1:49 PM

Havent allowed 1 touchdown all year. When the O gets on track we will punish teams the rest of the year.

if our offense could just be half decent

We are a national title contender. Things can change … in 2003 we started the season with a 30-0 loss to Georgia at home. By the end of the year, nobody wanted to face Clemson. We have a young quarterback and some very young interior offensive linemen. I, for one, saw improvement this week. I saw DJ making decisions to step up in the pocket, tuck it and run when the opportunity was there. I saw him make some nice throws. I saw a running back that's special and Justin Ross getting on track. This isn't a meltdown; it appears that it will be a melt up. This team reminds me of the '81 team - nobody, and I mean NOBODY is going to hang a bunch of points on this crew. We have exceptional special teams. The offense has strength and talent … these kids weren't recruited because they're a bunch of pu$$ies; they're tough kids. They just need to figure out who to hit in which defense, how to adjust to stunts and blitzes and to have confidence (which will build). Thankfully, they get to get it together while playing a bunch of poor football teams, otherwise, this would be catching up with them.
Would they have this luxury (growing up)in the SEC or the Big10? The answer is no - this team would lose a couple of games (probably three or four) but they're not in those conferences. By the end of the year I think this will be a very dangerous (and healthy) football team. I usually don't ascribe to the "You don't play in a tough conference" deal but this year I do … we're lucky. If we run the table and, at the end of the year pass the eye test (that I think we will), we will be in the playoff and will be a dangerous opponent. Just my two cents and I'm not a sunshine pumper … seen this before. There is a good nucleus here; this team isn't a turd - polishing it could make it a gem.

They are fun to watch. Maybe not as deep as in our NC years. They are wearing down in the 2nd half thanks to our 3&out offensive scheme.

You have to remember that the offense gave up 9. As a team A&M may lead but not as a defense.

That's why I posted the other day . .if we keep every team from scoring a TD, I like out chances. But it will still be brutal, if we are not scoring much. I've been through this in 2000 with the Super Bowl Champion Ravens. You win, but they're nail biters.
