% of Military Vets in the NFL

Dec 23, 2014, 10:46 AM

Not many college players make it to the NFL and even less can say they are military veterans. Pat Tillman comes to mind but he was a very rare example.

Even rarer are those like Tillman who left the NFL at the height of his career to enlist in the military and become an Army Ranger. Tillman was a very brave individual.

Tillman was a NFL Player then went into the Army

at least I think thats right.

Army had a player drafted in the late 2000s who I think did his enlistment duty before going pro.

I'm sure there are a couple air force or navy players. They usually have decent teams.

The last Navy player drafted was in the late 90s

He was a OL with the Panthers for a while. With the timing, I doubt he was a "vet" in the traditional sense of the word.

They talked about it before the Army/Navy game so I could be missing out on some others that never were drafted.

None of this matters, think of the inspiration Dan has given

I'm pretty sure Staubach was born after WW1.***

Mike Anderson was a marine who

became a RB for the Broncos back when they had a good running game. Think he couldn't stop smoking pot and ended up out of the league after a few years though.

Rocky Bleier is a great one that comes to mind.

If you have a chance, google him. I was fortunate enough to meet him this past January at a company function in AZ. He has some great stories to tell!
