Rant: Daughter of has covid ...

Aug 14, 2021, 2:24 PM

She has been fully vaccinated for months. She attended a small get together of about 7-8 friends/co-workers Monday night. Two of them were anti-vaxxers who, she learned as the evening progressed, had covid symptoms and weren't feeling well. They think the whole covid thing is overblown and is designed by the government and helped along by their agents in the media to control the people. Bottom line, they think it's all a bunch of BS and were not taking it seriously at all. They showed up for work the next day feeling even worse, one burning up with a fever. Management sent them home immediately when they learned of it, and told them not to return until fever subsided AND they had negative covid test. Turns out both had covid. Daughter of went for covid test ASAP and just got results - positive. She, at his point just has a stuffy nose and feels really tired, while the other two have maintained high fevers, cough, congestion, headaches, all of the severe flu-like symptoms; thankfully no hospitilization yet. Now several others who've been in close contact with them at workplace have tested positive and are out of work.

Here's my rant. This isn't political. I haven't voted for a democrat since Jimmy Carter, which was my first election just after I turned 18. I voted for Trump and even though he is an idiot at times, I don't regret it (I just wish we had better choices). This is about common sense and the ability to think and process information, coulpled with a genuine concern and compassion for your fellow citizens. So, if you choose to be an ignorant, self-absorbed sack of #### who really belives you are taking some kind of patriotic stand by acting irresponsibly and callously, that is your right. Just be prepared to face the wrath of fellow Americans who call you out for it. Quit infecting and killing other people because you are exercising your right to be a ####### idiot.

Re: Rant: Daughter of has covid ...

I hope your daughter's okay.

Hopefully because she's vaxxed she will be. What we're hearing pretty persistently is Delta can beat the vax to a limited extent and you can still get COVID if you're vaxxed now but if you're vaxxed you're still much better-equipped to beat it and you're going to get a far milder case than you would have without it. I sincerely hope this proves true in your daughter's case and she is okay...my thoughts and prayers go with her, and with you.

At the end of the day, politics aside, that's really what this should be about: let's make sure our families are okay. Maybe it's that my wife and I got nailed early by "moderate" cases that were sufficiently savage to convince us neither of us really wanted to see what "severe" cases looked like, so we're taking this COVID thing a lot more seriously than others, and as somebody who's still suffering from long-haul COVID symptoms I don't really need to be convinced I don't want it again. So there's that. But yeah, it is often hard to have patience with the...almost willful defiance of the well-being of others at this point. There's 620,000+ Americans dead. There's at least four million dead worldwide. Heck, there's probably four million dead in India. At what point are people going to start taking this seriously? We only lost 50K in all of freaking Vietnam!

Like I said, I hope she's well...and because she is vaxxed, the odds do say she likely will be. But again, my thoughts and prayers are with her.

Thank you. Sorry you had to go through all of that.

Aug 14, 2021, 3:04 PM

Her test didn't say if delta or not, but I expect it is, and I'm sure she could find out. Just chatted with her again, and she says only thing is a stuffy nose. That's not bad for 5 days post exposure, 3 days after stuffy nose bagan. Looks like the vax is making a difference.

Vax aside, who the #### goes to work (or parties, or any public/close quarters gathering) with covid symptoms during a covid pandemic? What kind of heartless, souless, pile of #### does that? As my wife pointed out, what kind of person even does that when there is no pandemic, like just with ordinary flu symptoms, especially a fever? Everybody gets sick days at work - that's what they're for. If you have a fever and are achy all over, stay home; don't go to work and spread it to other people, some who may not fare as well as you. Don't we have any concern or respect for other human beings anymore? I really don't understand that kind of thinking, and I see it all of the time where I work.

I am pretty sure I got infected a few weeks back, I had a runny nose and a fever for about 24 hours, felt kind of worn down after that, then fine two days later. I never got tested, but I felt exactly the same as I did after my second shot, minus the severe running nose. The thing was a spigot for about 2 hours. I let my guard down over the fourth and felt the symptoms 2 weeks to the day after. It was not bad, fully functional and on my feet.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Looking back, I think I may have been infected as well.

Aug 14, 2021, 3:22 PM

I had a couple of times, well post vax, that I developed cold-like symptoms (stuffy head, scratchy throat, fatigue, etc.) that only lasted a few days, before I felt bad enough for long enough to get it checked out. I kept waithing for it to morph into something worse, or lose sense of taste or smell, but each time it resolved inside of a week. Recently I've considered an anti-body test just to see. I'm sure a lot of people have gone through the same.

I had it in December along with the wife. Felt like train hit me for about 2 weeks. 8 months later and I can’t smell a skunk fart but feel just fine.

Thank you. I really don’t even think about the loss of smell much. But the other day I came in after my wife had smoked up the house while cooking. After about 5 minutes she said you don’t smell that smoke do you. I said “holy cow no!” Then it hit me me “this could suck if the house was on fire. I would never smell the smoke”.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Two things.

Aug 14, 2021, 4:38 PM

Assuming you're talking about my daughter, I do assume she got it from being around her infected coworkers the night before they all worked together. They all hugged when greeting each other, drove a short distance in a car, then stood and sat together as they talked in a bar/restaurant before anything was mentioned about any of them being sick. My daughter immediately tried to distance herself at that point. Next day, the two sick women show up at work, feeling sicker than the night before. Besides, it doesn'y matter where my daughter picked it up, there were two young women infected with covid who, because they are ignorant, self-centered trash who have been brainwashed by ########, were verey wreckless and uncaring in their behavior. That's the point, that we have a lot of people like that, regardless of where she actually picked it up.

Aug 14, 2021, 4:45 PM

most likely, but there is no way to know for sure

i dont understand why girls have to hug for a greeting

i have to stop my wife from hugging folks

she could have picked it up from the waitress/cook/waiter at the restaurant, handling food trays, credit cards, etc without sanitizing their hands

she will throw it off and have top shelf immuinity if there is a bright side

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Come on, dude.

Aug 14, 2021, 5:11 PM

Of course it can't be proven exactly where she contracted it. Even though the likelihood of where she contracted it is obvious, what difference does it make? People, who know they have symptoms of a virus that has killed millions of people, are thoughtlessly, selfishly behaving in a way that spreads it to other PEOPLE. Why are they behaving that way? Why do they hold these ridiculous beliefs? That is the point, and it should concern you, and all of us. People who don't believe that are ignorant, dangerous fools, and we should all be alarmed by that as well.

And yes, thanks to the vax, I think my daughter will be okay, ultimately.

only maybe 15% of people with symptoms are coming back positive for covid, so not believing that you have covid would seem reasonable

having a fever is probably the key

Aug 14, 2021, 5:25 PM

don't take a chance, not right now. You stay away from people and get tested.

Anybody, with or without symptoms can carry and spread covid. Obviously we can't all get tested every day, multiple times a day. But, if you do have symptoms (agree, especially a fever), avoid all contact with other people until you can confirm it's not covid! You owe it to yourself and to everybody you come in contact with.

I agree wholeheartedly. What the hell is happening to Americans? I don't know the ages of your daughters friends and I initially would have chalked it up to the selfishness of youth, but I have friends in their 50's that act the same crappy way, and some of their children are in the healthcare industry and are working their butts off right now. I just don't understand anymore. At the same time, we have full adult grown aszz men screaming their heads off at school board members that "we will find you" and various other BS, over the MINOR issue of kids wearing masks in schools. Add in the idiots that were sending death threats to all sorts of election workers and various officials and I just think I'm losing faith in our collective humanity. It's depressing as helll!!!! Never though in a million years that this is what we would devolve into.

Hope your daughter recovers nicely and has no long term affects! Can't say I wish that for her two friends you mention. Dammnit, here I am devolving also.

Aug 14, 2021, 4:30 PM

even if it is just a few people acting this way here and there.

You touched on something when you noted how they really believe they are taking a patriotic stand. It seems obvious to me that the lies and propaganda they chose to believe about the vaccines didn't just magically appear out of thin air.

So while they personally act irresponsibly, aren't their actions mostly the product of a politically-inspired belief?

Don't they often express an emotional appeal that the government is trying to take something precious away from them. Personal sovereignty, liberty, freedom.

Ipso facto, it is political.

This is the conflict of the pandemic, individual sovereignty and self-determination vs the safety of the community. Politicians will try to take advantage of this friction every day of the week and it is worth arguing about, but the outcomes mostly produce cultish ideologies, and they have a hefty cost.

Politicians exploit every opportunity. Always have and

Aug 14, 2021, 4:54 PM

always will. It's our responsibility to realize that, see beyond it, and not use it as an excuse. Like now. Of course politicians are exploiting covid every-which-way; but at the end of the day no matter which way you lean, covid is a real, deadly, very contagious virus, and we have the ability to minimize it's impact through voluntary vaccines and voluntary temporary behavioral modification. Everything else is ignorance and/or uncaring selfishness.

One side thinks we’re the center of the universe and invulnerable to cataclysmic events, while the other knows we, as human beings, are just a tiny piece of a gigantic universe we have just started to learn about. We have the science to combat viruses that will continue to mutate as long as it takes to wipe us out. Polio or Typhoid Fever would’ve taken us all out by now if not for vaccines and antibiotics, but because this is new, people just don’t believe.

Yeesh. That one drank the Q-Aid bigly. She's zonked out of her mind. Basically she's like a computer that's been completely taken over by spyware, there'd be no point even trying to have a conversation with her. Trying to "deprogram" her would be akin to getting someone out of a cult, or removing someone from an environment where they'd been brainwashed.

We're at the point our society we really need to start having conversations about de-legalizing memetic programming - and what exactly that even is - because there's systemic attacks being waged on the brains of the susceptible. It's not really even her fault she's susceptible.

But there's some folks being wound up by bad actors with worse intentions...and aimed at the rest of us. She is Exhibit A for that.

Aug 14, 2021, 10:32 PM

The country is overflowing with narcissists needing to fill giant holes in their lives. They follow the google search results showing the yellow-brick road full of Pizzagate-like quests for hidden knowledge, and they go off on the heroes journey to save the children, and the world.

Whatever the problem, it is motivated fear of the big, bad wolf. 400 years earlier, they "found" some witches to burn and that helped settle some nerves. Now they go to school board meetings.

Ultimately, it is some strange kind of narcissism that moves the needle both in the anti-vax and Q-base memetics. Ton of crossover. In the case of vaccines, just substitute transhumanists for witches. Unfortunately, by extension for the hard-core, if you are in favor of a vaccine that must mean you are also a transhumanist and need to go down.

That is exactly what they are thinking.

This one might have been an accident...though Russia is undoubtedly rolling with it. Half the anti-vax disinformation on the web has a Russian origin. They really want to see us suffer and they know this keeps us off balance.

The next one won't be an accident, and it's in the playbook now. They've seen it work far too well on us and they know we're wide open to this sh!t now.
