Ranking Tiger QBs

Mar 19, 2022, 3:02 PM

Can that be done? I don't think so as all were in a different situation. Still it is fun to think on.

Here is a list I just ran across:

https://fanbuzz.com/college-football/acc/clemson/best-clemson-quarterbacks/

What would Woody have accomplished with teams Dabo has had?

Maybe some kid in the 1920's was best ever?

Pretty Accurate List Tug

Up until 8, I agree across the board based upon individual and team performance with these QB's at the helm. After 8, good QB's. But there may be equal or better from so many years ...

BTW, are you in Savannah Tug?

Savannah is too big for me

I live on Hartwell in Oconee County on the Tugaloo River. It is a very nice place to live.

You made post 10,000 asking me that. Congrats !!

Jordan and Fuller were before my time. Can't argue much with the rest of the list. I think you can throw a blanket over Boyd/Whitehurst/Dantzler. Their ranking has more to do with the talent around them.

Jimmy Addison would have been in my top-10 instead of

Cullen Harper or Kyle Parker.

Addison was a terrifically accurate passer and would have thrived in an offense with some of the receivers we’ve had lately.

And I don’t agree that Steve Fuller was more a runner than a passer. He was a great passer who just happened to be big and fast. I would definitely place Steve Fuller third on the list.

Will never forget his passing ability in 1965 comeback win against Virginia.

Three very tough QB's stand out in my time. Of course Harvey White, Lowndes Shingler
and more recent, Rodney Williams, Deshaun Cameron and Brandon Streeter. Very tough
dudes.

Would put Homer in 4th. He did win the Natty and was the MVP.

Tough, tough, tough

DW4 got the quintessential college QB ending that saw him ride out on top.
- 2x Heisman finalist
- Back-to-back natty appearances
- Several epic showdowns won, including the story book ending of beating Bama on a last minute drive to cap his career.
-1st Rd pick

TL16 won the natty his first year.
-Heisman finalist
-Back-to-back natty appearances
-Never lost a regular season game at home or on the road; only Ls were in the natty or CFB playoffs.
-One of, if not the, main catalyst for having CFB not be cancelled in 2020.
-First #1 pick in Clemson history

Idk how you really validate one over the other outside of just how they finished their careers. DW4 was Mr Clutch and TL16 was Mr Dominant.

Too close to call IMO.

1. If I had to pick one for a game I'd probably lean TL16.

2. If I needed a GW drive, DW4 gets the call.

That seems crazy to me. Trevor was awesome, but in the biggest games, he wasn't as consistent. He was phenomenal in 2018. In 2019, he played well, but not incredible, against Ohio State, and played poorly against LSU, especially in the second half, as his mistakes stalled several drives and he didn't even reach 50% passing (and LSU did not have an elite defense). In 2020, he was bad against Ohio State. So in the five biggest games of his career, he was 3-2, with inconsistent results.

Deshaun played with a much worse offense than Trevor for most of his career, but in the biggest games of his career, he brought his best. In 2015, he played one of the best defenses Saban's ever had (that beat the Big 10 champs 38-0 in the semifinals). Without that much surrounding talent, he put the team on his back and broke the record for most yards in a national championship (nearly 500). They were a far better team, but we almost won because of his. The next year, he duplicated the effort, he broke the passing record he set in 2015, winning one of the best college football games of all time. He also outdueled a number of starting NFL QBs, including Lamar Jackson, Baker Mayfield, and Mitch Trubisky. Also, while Lawrence still has time to grow, he was really bad last year in the league while Deshaun has been elite since day 1.

Trevor is a great quarterback. But Deshaun Watson is the best QB to ever line up under center for Clemson, and it would be crazy to pick anyone over him for a play/drive/game.

Mike Williams. Wayne Gallman. Artavis Scott. Jordan

Leggett. Deon Cain. Hunter Renfrow. Charon Peake. Trevion Thompson. CJ Fuller. Garrett Williams. I think it's hard to say Trevor had a better offense than Deshaun!
