Ran over a truck tire tread. This sucks

Truck tire exploded in front me on the interstate. No space to swerve out of the way of the tire tread. Fun events so far:
- Discovered run flat tires can run flat quickly. Already knew they were expensive as fudge to replace. 2 tires plus alignment = $1,000 - Was stranded in Orangeburg from 10-11pm before AAA could tow me home. Two people approached me for money (while I'm sitting next to a clearly broken down car) - Now waiting on body damage and other repair estimates. Front bumper is messed up. Weird noise under car anytime I decelerate. - Car insurance says I'd be listed 'at fault' if I file a claim (unless I could prove a tire was actively bouncing in the air when it hit me)
Screw you trucks.

Looks like it's common policy to be 'at fault' if you run over a tire tread. Getting a dash cam would help identify the truck at fault while you're scrambling to get off the road.

My son had a similar situation, something fell out of a truck

and slammed into the front of his car. He just caught a glimpse of it... square, maybe 2' x 2'... like an old A/C window unit. He was on I-85 and couldn't stop to see what it was, nor get an "identity" of the truck. Happened too quickly. All he could do was cruise on down the road to the next exit and pull off. I seem to recall his insurance covered it...
Could the difference be the coverage level? As in, he had Comprehensive coverage and you only have the basic required Liability? I don't know, just an uninformed guess...

Insurance will still cover it as I have max insurance. It will be listed 'at fault' in their systems which may raise my rates in future if I file the claim.

A bucket fell out of the back of a truck a few cars in front of me. It rolled onto the paved shoulder in a median barrier section on I-40 right near Southpoint mall. The car in front of me had just enough drag on it that the bucket rolled into my lane and my choices were:
1. hit the bucket and #### up my bumper 2. veer left and hit the median barrier or 3. veer right and hit the car next to me 4. Slam on brakes and get rear ended by the semi behind me.
I never got my cracked bumper fixed and traded in the car four years later.

Deer ran into wifes car. Insurance sent a check for $3500

had to wait 2 months on the body shop to look at it, so I don't even know if the $3500 covers it. I imagine parts are going to take months to get here too. She got a police report just to make sure the insurance would cover it.

This happened to me a long time ago

I was driving down 26 and about to link up with 20 and I had my window down and it was an awesome day. All the sudden a truck blew his tire and all the suddenly my car was hit and destroyed the hood and grill. Then since I had my windows down, there was rubber all in my car and little pieces were stuck in my arm.
State Tropper arrived in a Camaro. Remember when they would roll around in those? And helped me write the report etc.. My parents had to drive down and get me. I was driving back to college and so I missed a few days. No idea if my dad used insurance or not, but picking rubber out of your arm isn’t fun.

but such as your plight is why I avoid packs and all close quarter driving. I've seen too many die on Hwys 85,40 and 75 to allow myself to get in a hurry.
Imo, retreads should be outlawed.
